not always

if a Lion trainer cracks a whip with no contact to get the beasts attention, so be it

if the same guy whips the beats because it does not perform, then yes

personally i hate animal tricks

Electric collars that zap your dog when it barks, those annoy me. Dogs bark, it's what they do. It's like telling men not to masturbate, they're gonna do it.

really animal cruelty?
Ask yourself if it would be cruel to train a kid to do something using any form of mistreatment. Fairly simple answer imo.

I have no respect for any human that abuses an animal in any way. If you can't treat them with kindness and respect you don't deserve to be around them.

I think you could tell right away by looking at the animal if it has been subjected to anything cruel, but CONTACT with the whip I think would be a little harsh..

My opinion is that if you need a whip or have to use any kind of object to train an animal then the animal was not meant to be trained. I've taught all of my pets tricks with rewards of treats. That's what worked and anything else would be cruel.

I always thought the same thing...but I have a couple of really good friends who are dog handlers on the police force and one of them has to use a bark collar on his dog b/c he just HOWLS when in the car and, if he doesn't put the collar on him, dispatch can never hear what he's saying over his dog. LOL

So does he also strap a mini shock collar to his pecker to keep him from masturbating so he can push the "talk" button and get through to dispatch and still keep his other hand on the wheel?

Blech...thanks for that mental image. LOL

Actually, he's just a reserve unit now and he doesn't work the dog anymore...so I guess it's a moot point now. *shrugs*
