men and women aren't equal

In legal and societal terms, they deserve equal treatment, but biologically we're totally unequal in many areas.

That's not the point, we aren't the SAME but we are EQUAl. Neither gender has an over all advantage over the other. Men are good at being physically strong, women are good at physical stability and endurance AKA men can play foot ball better, women can live longer and through more stressful times. Things like that make us equal but, not the same.

Okay here is the final presentation (I am going to put it onto note cards this way) I stole some of your stuff cuz it sounded cool. Does I have your permission to use it?

Introduction

In some of the essays we had recently some students said that the male gender was better then the female gender. While most of this was based on the physical abilities of men, one in particular said that men were better in pretty much all aspects of life.

I am here to prove that belief wrong.

Because unlike that common belief in many societies, the truth is our genders are equal. I will explain why in four main subjects, leadership, mentality, biblical roles, and physical abilities.

Physically

It is true, men are physically advanced in strength. But it is also true that women are physically advanced in stability and endurance.

Women are better at surviving then men are. The live longer, and the survive more numerously in dangerous and stressful situations.

Males have a 50% more chance of being still born.

Exactly 94,232 more boys than girls were born in the U.S. during 2004

But, there are still 144,513,361 females of all ages, compared to 138,396,524 males.

More males are born, but more females survive.

Females live on average 4 to 5 years longer then males.
Mentality

In 2007 the average GPA for females graduating high school to enter college was 3.52 and for males it was 3.4. This is not to say that women are smarter then men, it is to say that women are just as capable as men to do well in school.

Many people believe that men are stronger because they internalize their problems. They keep professional and just 'ignore' their issues. But the truth is they're letting stress and other issues they have to deal with bottle up, and at some point they are doomed to explode.

While women externalize their issues. They talk to friends, and release stress. It is because of that, and also our lowered iron levels, that women live longer then men, and often have a healthier and calmer mental state.

Biblically

How many times have you heard the term "seed" as in man's seed referring to "planting your seed"? Well it was thought that the man created life with his "seed" and that women were only the incubators of man's seed. It wasn't until the 1700's that we actually learned that women have an equal role in the creation of life. But before that time, it was thought that men did all the work of creating life, women were nothing more than incubators of their children. This is why men are not suppose to spill their seed (masturbate) in some religions. It was thought that they were killing viable babies.

Also, you will sometimes read in the bible or other holy texts that women are below men, but this is probably not the case. You see, it isn't god that sees us lower, it is the man who typed up his bible's own prejudice. Men took advantage of women, as we were much busier bearing children 4'000 years ago then we are now. They made themselves higher biblically as well as politically, so they could have more power. But putting yourself above someone doesn't make you better then them.
Leadership

It is biased to say anyone is incapable of leadership. To say a female can't do it, is the same as saying an African American can't do it.

Women have proved themselves capable of leadership in society

The FFA is the largest adolescent organization in the world, and since females were allowed in in 1969, the percentage of female membership increased to 50% while the amount of females in leadership increased to over 70%.

Currently, 12 FORTUNE 500 companies are run by women, and a total of 24 FORTUNE 1000 companies have women in the top job.

The 33rd ranked fortune 500 company is run by a women CEO.

No women don't own the majority of these companies, but this proves that they are CAPABLE of it.

Conclusion

The roles are set because of physical makeup, not because of better or lesser. Man is the protector because he's bigger and physically stronger. Woman was given the awesome responsibility of bearing and rearing the children. How can that possibly be viewed as a lesser role?

Is it more important to have someone who provides for your family or to have someone who creates your family? The truth is they are the EQUAL. Without one, you can't have the other.

The roles are different. They balance each other. They are interdependent. One is in no way greater or lesser than the other. We aren't the same, but we are equal.

I'm almost done with the speech, just looking for stuff to prove that women are just as capable as men in leadership!
Joan of Arc?

I'm sorry, but it looks like you're buying into patriarchal definitions, and are trying to prove that a woman can fit into a definition of Man. They're different. They should be different. Be proud to be different.

Oprah's a leader
Mary Kay is a leader.
Margaret Thatcher's a leader.

But don't forget:

ETA: I posted this at the same time as the previous post. It's not meant as a critique of the article.

So I am doing the presentation on why males and females are equal for my english class. In the 'Religous' area I want to say something like this, is it offensive? "God doesn't hate us but, whoever typed up the bible had some sort of prejudice."

Honey, it's YOUR presentation, you can can say whatever you like. What you have said sounds fair to me, and I do agree. I think others might also.

I'm probably too late to help you, but there might be a better way to say it as how do you how God feels about mankind or if God even exists as traditional religions view him/her/it? You can say that those who wrote the bible more or less reflected the culture of the time that placed men before women in importance.

But if you are going to argue why men and women are equal, you'd better examine 1) physical equality versus 2) economic equality, and 3) legal equality of men versus women, and why they either are or are not equal or why they should be if they are not...

The kid that came before me said that men are better then women because the bible says so. I am just saying that that might be what the bible says, but it doesn't mean god said it.

I am not Christian and I have never opened a Bible, but I am sure that it doesn't say that men or better than women... and if it does, I do not know why people are following that religion...

try to look at this from productivity point of view, at that time, man have more physical power than woman, they are capable to carry out the farming work, and other things, woman only stay home feed the kids.
and all the religion seems to despise women, maybe because at that time the ruler and authurity are all man, they decide things, that's why they make rules against women

As noted by Minor Axis, I too, may be to late but for accuracy you shouldn't say "prejudice". The more accurate term, from an English and definitional standpoint, would be "bias". To wit:

"God doesn't hate us but, whoever typed up the Bible had some sort of bias."

The use of "typed up" is acceptable under the poetic license exception. ;)

Moses was gods spokeman for the nation of Israel, he didn't have any problem with it if you read the surrounding verses.

Anyway, there are plenty of other accounts of sexism in the Bible too, buying women as if they were property, wives should obey their husbands ect ect

Wives should obey their husbands in the Lord. You do understand what that means, right? ;)

Also, the verses that you're pulling up as reference, have nothing to do with living under grace, as we're fortunate enough to do, since the crucifixion. We live under the New Testament today. If you'll research it, you find that to be true. (I have the verses handy if you can't find them.) :)

Obeying a man if you're a woman? Dosen't sound very equal to me.

And if the old Testament is irrelevant, why do most Christian religions teach from it and it is included in most versions of the Bible, I've come across?
