So I am doing the presentation on why males and females are equal for my english class. In the 'Religous' area I want to say something like this, is it offensive? "God doesn't hate us but, whoever typed up the bible had some sort of prejudice."

The kid that came before me said that men are better then women because the bible says so. I am just saying that that might be what the bible says, but it doesn't mean god said it.

the bible has been written in so many different languages and intrepreted so many times its hard to really say what it really said to be honest with you, if you want to take that stand on it

Well the kid that came before you was wrong. Nowhere is it written that men are "better" than women.

If you want offensive you should read the Koran

In laws yes, the Koran doesn't even make sure the hypocrisy is at least not in the same paragraph!

However, some will consider it controversial, Some take the Bible as the literal word of God. To say there is a bias at all interjected by some of the various writers is to say that the literal word of god is flawed.

Seriously, you can't talk about race, politics, or religion with out it being "controversial" these days. Every body just seems to be waiting to get offended

Well, what the kid said was the bible said that men were responsible for being the head of the house, making them more important, and then thusly better then women. But if you ask me, the women can be the head of the house, or they could just share the responsibility.... be equals, but whatever, who really cares about freedom, rights, etc. anyways?

ive never read the bible so im not sure. i choose to believe in god cause i have faith but i dont like reading stuff like the bible or preachers telling me what i should believe and how my life should be lived.

but i believe in God if that makes sense.

but if you want throw this little thing in there. i think it fits for your men and woman are equal in religon

Woman

Woman was created from the rib of man.
She was not made from his head to be above him,
nor was she made from his feet to be trampled on.
She was created out of his side to equal him,
under his arm to be protected by him
and near his heart to be loved.

Don't attack the Bible. Attack the kid. ...... Okay, attack the kid's argument. Jump the kid when nobody's looking.

The roles are set because of physical makeup, not because of better or lesser. Don't forget that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. Man is the protector because he's bigger and physically stronger. Woman was given the awesome responsibility of bearing and rearing the children. How can that possibly be viewed as a lesser role??

Woman's biblical and natural role is great and more difficult than Man could bear. She could not do Her part without Man to provide protection, meat, and shelter. Man could not do His part without Woman to bear children, protect Home while He hunts, and provide companionship essential to making life worthwhile.

The roles are different. They balance each other. They are interdependent. One is in no way greater or lesser than the other.

Something else to consider when it comes to men and women in biblical times.

How many times have you heard the term "seed" as in man's seed referring to "planting your seed"? Well it was thought that the man created life with his "seed" and that women were only the incubators of man's seed. It wasn't until the 1700's that we actually learned that women have an equal role in the creation of life. But before that time, it was thought that men did all the work of creating life, women were nothing more than incubators of their children. This is why men are not suppose to spill their seed (masturbate) in some religions. It was thought that they were killing viable babies.

Women having any sort of rights is fairly new to mankind. It's not the way it was for most cultures

where does God ever tell you to rape a woman in the bible?

Numbers 31:15 - 18 -

Moses, Eleazar the priest, and all the leaders of the people went to meet them outside the camp. But Moses was furious with all the military commanders who had returned from the battle. "Why have you let all the women live?" he demanded. "These are the very ones who followed Balaam's advice and caused the people of Israel to rebel against the LORD at Mount Peor. They are the ones who caused the plague to strike the LORD's people. Now kill all the boys and all the women who have slept with a man. Only the young girls who are virgins may live; you may keep them for yourselves.

Moses was gods spokeman for the nation of Israel, he didn't have any problem with it if you read the surrounding verses.

Anyway, there are plenty of other accounts of sexism in the Bible too, buying women as if they were property, wives should obey their husbands ect ect
