is porn good for society = the big questions

Obviously the media it's being viewed through has changed a lot! But there's nothing solid behind the idea that men are suddenly incapable of relating to real women because they're spending so much time looking at virtual boobs, except that it makes a good shock-value article :p

Seriously. People have been looking at pornography for centuries. There are always going to be those who create an issue based around it, but that's not caused by the porn, it's caused by something being wrong with those people, and if it wasn't porn it'd be something else.

There's no evidence to suggest that porn is somehow causing a massive moral decline, in any country. It's got appeal, but ultimately it's no match for the real thing ;)

here's the link to the article I was talking about

"He’s Just Not That Into Anyone"

It's an interesting article, and I'm sure there are always going to be people who will say porn caused them serious problems with having real sex compared to masturbation.

But having read that article, the problem still isn't with the actual porn, it's with the fact that these guys are overusing it. Again, the majority of adults can enjoy pornography and still have completely healthy sexual relationships with real women. This is like taking an article about bulimia and saying we should ban food. The product is not the problem, the problem is with the people who can't exert some self-control.

I really wouldn't be so certain.

Modern pornography is much more visceral than just looking at some chick with her boobs hanging out of her corset.

I'm not AGAINST porn, I watch it, I just think a lot of people are too into it for their own good.

I watch porn, I know it's come a long way (no pun intended) from the ankle-baring days :p

I agree that people get too into it. The difference is that I think those people are in the minority, and only get flaunted in the media because there are people out there who are very against pornography and would love to have a valid argument against it.

I agree with your last statement, but teenagers are all about NO self-control and I just don't think it's been a good thing that they have unlimited access to hard core porn :thumbdown

I certainly think that it is a valid argument to say that young men you consistently watch a lot of porn can warp their image of women and or standards of women.

My problem with porn is there is no plot and it doesn't turn me on just to look at naked people. I want some mystery, some building up to it, not just hey you two beautiful women ordered a pizza, here u go let's f*ck!

And the music on the majority of them is soooo 70s it's horrid.

I've seen a very few good ones. But I'm not a strictly visual person to get me excited, I need more than just naked people f*cking.

As for swingers, most of them do use protection and I would hazard a guess that less single people than real swingers use protection. STDs aren't being passed around because of multiple sex partners. It's due to irresponsible people, even those who only have a few sex partners, if they don't use protection consistently. Sometimes it's supposedly monoganous couples, where one partner strayed w/o knowledge and didn't use protection.

Porn isn't bad for society, but I think unprotected sex isn't good for it ;)

Sure, valid for some. There will always be a minority who will take something too far for whatever reason.

It's not like young men are locked in their rooms till their 18 though, learning about women using only google images and a 1998 backcopy of playboy. Boys go to school, they have female classmates and female teachers. Their mothers are probably women, they have other female family members, friends of the family, neighbours, etc etc.

Porn only accounts for a small percentage of where teenagers get their information about the opposite sex. Not sex, but the opposite sex. This is why men don't all expect their girlfriends to take it in the ass on the first date, and women don't all expect their boyfriends to have fifteen inch dicks. Disappointed as we are by that realisation :p yes, porn can affect you and shape your preferences and so on, but it's not the only influence out there and for the majority, the effect it has is minimal.

I'm not saying no one out there has ever had a sexual dysfunction which related to their pornography use, but I don't believe porn is the cause of it and should be vilified accordingly.

So that's a no, I take it.

I have a life, thats why I dont feel the need to flirt non stop with kids obsessed with soap operas and reality shows on the internet.:p

No, you just sit on the sidelines and wait for the opportunity to stir trouble...I don't feel the need to flirt, as a matter of fact, I don't even call it flirting, I call it being me and if that bothers you even half as much as your being you bothers me......we wouldnt be havng this conversation now, because I, unlike you, DO have a life Peter.

If your post has nothing to do with whether or not porn has a place in society, type it up elsewhere, be it in PMs, on profiles, or in your own private thread, like the ones in the Complex.

I take it you're speaking to everybody, even those who, out of the blue, popped into this thread for no other reason but to throw a dirty dig at another member, and not just me and joe...right?

THE JOES KNEES ARE GETTING SORE - where are you honey ?????????????????

lol...joe, you're so cute.

Anyway, getting back on topic. ( since nobody but you or I ever goes offtopic) I don't believe that pornography is a necessity by no means, but it's out there and there's really not much we can do about it. We have to realize that, just like anything else, as long as there's money in it for somebody, then we're not gonna get rid of it. IMO...as long as it's not hurting anybody, and as long as everybody involved is a consenting adult, then what's the harm? In a perfect world, any form of pornography would be that way.
