My guess, is that you assume that because I don't care for Gore, that I disdain liberal thought?

The two don't correlate......

Bottom line, commingling Al Gore with this subject was a bad move on the part of the scientists because it once again becomes a political debate rather than scientific.

They don't belong in the ring together. And who really gives a fuck if I like Al Gore or not? The bottom line is he's not a scientist, and found a way to bring himself back to the forefront.

after that, straight to politics, and as far as I am concerned, that taints.
I truly believe the science that's being done on this is solid - cores being taken of the polar ice caps and using that data to plot ancient atmospheric conditions, studies of the desalinization of the oceans, et al.
The problem, as E pointed out, is once you thrust politics into the discussion, there is an inverse relationship to credibility. Witness FIRST POST:
...Ok so as usual conservative forces, say "that does not prove anything". Of course they say that because having to do something about it will interfere with their business models.
very typical of AEF, I mean, MA, and once one establishes oneself as clearly and unabashedly conservative or liberal, then subsequent statements can and are looked upon by the discerning with a jaundiced eye, because when it comes to partisan politics, there's ALWAYS an axe to grind.
And that's unfortunate, because this is a serious issue, and the science supports the fact that there's a problem. Politics obscures it.

And I'm sorry for saying this.....But Al Gore is a chicken hawk and a sensationlist...Not that I totally disagree with the theories he presents...
he missed this part, and took you for a "Bushie," which is too bad but typical of yellow dog partisan types

Exhibit B:
...The typical conservative response is to tear down the individual and to ignore the message or the truth of the message.
wretchedly partisan, and that's just too bad.
Regarding the size of his house, I guess that means you hold in distain all those who live in mansions, including your political heros? I did read Mr. Gore has replaced his lighting and is putting in solar panels. You really don't expect him to move to a shack to prove his point do you?...
speaking of political heroes....
you want to talk about an oxymoron

Environmental regulations pop up everywhere, last year it was SO2, this year there's a push to reduce carbon footprinting...

It's never ending
no, it's not is it? Partisan politics, that is... :thumbdown

That chart goes back 6000 years.

Hmmmm

Creationists claim the earth is 6000 years old

So I guess Noah also had a CO2 monitor on the Ark :24:

Were the fuck do people come up with this bull shit anyway :surrender

Maybe I missed something.

Or perhaps the title of the movie should have been.......... An inconvenient Lie :24:

It's interesting.... I remember posting a thread like this around 7 months ago and everyone was like," I don't think global warming is real" or "Humans aren't the problem" It's like all the opinions suddenly changed. Maybe it has something to do with the heat of the summer instead of it being the cold of the winter.

I know it's probably just that everyone has seen some of the more overwhelming evidence now.... anywho I've been on board with destructinating global warming for a while now, here be my website: OPBBS - Home

Is the earth warming?

Yes

Are we contributing?

Some but I dispute the degree

We are trying to guess at what the earth was like before. We have so called records for 300 year flood levels. Now maybe their is science but I am guessing 90% of where this is determined is based on guessing.

Junk science.

We had an ice age. We had scientists back 30 years ago we were gonna have another.

You give a little info to a nut head politician and you get what you pay for. crap

30 years ago we were not nearly as far as we are now in science. All that people seem to think about is how much we are contributing, but we are taking away a lot too. EVery tree that we cut down was going to remove thousands of pounds of C02 that it never will be able to remove now. Think a lot about wild fires, the ones in california, huge impact. First the smoke and pollutants released into the air from the buring trees and other various things, then all C02 would of removed. Then all the resources we use to rebuild houses and such afterwards.... it adds up. A lot faster then we think.

Just think about every single thing you do, just for one day. Think about how that styrofoam cup you just took a drink from is going to be here for over 200 years--maybe even 500. Hundreds of years after your buried in the ground. Think about all the cups that are being drunken out of at the same time... think about the people making those thousands of cups every single day... think off a pollutes that melting peices of foam releases... just think about it--with everything.

It should seem like a lot more now, unless if your not thinking hard enough.

Don't even get me started about the oceans.

Don't get me wrong. I am not saying we need to ignore what we do that contributes to what happens on the earth. But we are not headed towards a self induced crisis. Unless you believe Gores drivel and then you better get China and others to buy into the concept because they will make us look like nothing when it all comes to a head given there population and growth.

As to styrofoam I think there has been a significant adjustment in the usage of that. it will always have a place but you don't see at McDonalds or such anymore.

If I still see any of the old styrofoam or anything else on a shelf somewhere, then I still think we are not done changing yet.

I never said I believed in Gore. He said a lot of facts that I believed in before that movie; and I wish someone else had said them. Because most of them were true.

How is it junk? And all styrofoam can be biodegradable, so it really does not matter. The only kind that is exceptional is the art, molding stuff, etc. Cuz that stuff usually has to last a while, like insulation to a house or whatever.

Not at all. I've watched the movie and disagree that he is a sensationalist. He's making a point which seems grounded to me and seems like something we as a species should be taking seriously.

There is nothing partisan about my statement at all. Conservatives have been saying "prove it" since the concept of global warming has been recognized.

No I didn't and I was not attacking Bad Boy. I was just making a statement, maybe a poorly placed statement.

Styrofoam is now regulated...Actually for a long time now, it's CFC free....It's not near as big of a danger as it used to be.

Did you know that if all the resteraunts would switch over to biodegradable styrofoam take-out boxes, and if everyone was using potato-starch eutensils we would have 30% smaller landfills? Did you know that plankton get killed by microscopic peices of styrofoam, that have broken down in our oceans over time, did you also know that plankton make 50-80% of our oxygen?

Styrofoam is still a threat.

In fact last year I rode my bike 4.03 miles up hill from the zoo 3 out of 7 days of the week, in the middle of the day, when the sun shines so brightly :D

There is nothing partisan about my statement at all. Conservatives have been saying "prove it" since the concept of global warming has been recognized.
Once you use labels, and you do regularly and profusely, your statements become partisan.

partisan = suck.

I'm conservative, but I'm not a Republican. I voted for 41 (Dukakis would have SUCKED), Perot, Clinton, 43 (I thought Gore would have SUCKED, but in hindsight, there's no way he would have sucked as bad a Bush, arguably one of the worst Presidents in the last 219 years and certainly the worst since Hoover) then Kerry to get 43 out. I think McCain and Obama have the trappings of a good President for different reason, the likes of which are too lenghty to type here.

Do you see any partisanship in that previous paragraph? I don't think so. But there are labels and consistently leftist leaning statements and railings against Republicans and conservatives ALL over your posts, so I draw my conclusions from the evidence presented.

bah! pffft!

Back on task - global warming is real. To what degree, I don't think we can be sure yet. But we ARE affecting the climate. The scientific data sans politics suggests it.

Oh, I voted for Reagan, Bush 1, Clinton, Gore. The difference? I knew Bush 2 would be trouble. ;) If it would less offensive to you, I'll say a group of people who put business interests above all else have been saying "prove it" since the concept of Global Warming has been recognized...
