Not trying to start a row about this, I'm just interested because I was surprised that on Offtopicz you are only allowed to post videos of it in the Underground when people under 18 cant see it. Is it not shown in schools in the USA or do you have to be over the age of 18 to watch the Discovery channel? I've never ever heard of it being an issue where I live! I thought the stereotypes Americans have of Brits is that WE are uptight about sex!:willy_nilly:

No, this isn't a row with the site admin, just I was surprised about this and was wondering if it was just an American curtural thing.

:eek:Jesus! Biology lessons in school in the USA must be really crap! :eek

i have not voted but would vote yes

what is the harm ? most kids when seeing animals get down to it just assume they are fighting anyways - is no big deal

me earlier comment about it being shown in schools is based on the fact that i dont think schools see it as part of mainstream curriculum, however if kids were to see such i dont think it would do them any harm whatsoever

I think I'd probably seen more animals doing it on the TV by the time I was 10 than had had hot dinners... no one explained it, there's really no need.

Besides, how young are we talking here??

Sorry dude, I forgot you're Canadian, maybe it's a Canadian thing too.

I really do find it unbelievable though that no one has a problem with a thread on here where children can look at photos of our female members showing off their ample cleavage yet a couple of animals having sex is a no no!:willy_nilly:

I have distracted our children when we were at the zoo and the animals were doing their things. My children did watch animal planet & the discovery channel when they were young. I think it really depends on the child. We never hid from our children the facts of life as to how babies were made. I still remember being on a school bus when I was in high school and having a first grader point out a bull mounted on a heifer in the most graphic of terms.

Personally I find children are more curious about sex if you try to hide it from them like it's dirty and in some way taboo. C'mon dude, it's just nature! I'm sure if you just told your children that's how they make babies, the'd be satisfied with that answer.

And eating each other - Who remembers Wild Kingdom???:( I knew then I could never be a wildlife photographer as I'd be trying to save them.....:willy_nilly:

I think it's all in how you handle it. One time, a friend of mine and her kids joined PBBB and I at the zoo. We walked past some monkeys doing it. She pulled her kids away aghast, trying to shield their eyes while PBBB was asking me what they were doing. "Mating" is all I said as we nonchalantly walked away..... PBBB was satisfied w/that answer and kept moving forward whereas her friends were trying to look back to see what the big deal was that they had to be pulled away w/their eyes covered.

Now, would I let PBBB sit down and watch the video of the chimp and the frog? No. Had we seen that at the zoo and she asked I'd probably say the chimp was bored, keep moving and hope it's left at that.

Do I think that video should be out on the open forum? Not really. Pink posted one of this a few days ago in the Underground. A much more appropriate place for something like that.
