"So what if the guy threw a shoe at me?" Bush said, comparing the action to political protests in the United States.
"If you want the facts, it was a size 10," he joked.

that's not really that funny, if you stop and think about it. What if that would have been a gun, or a bomb or some crazy crap like that?

Then we'd have CHENEY as lame duck prez. Can you imagine the damage he could do between now and Jan 20?

Questions That I Have for the Secret Service

Jon Friedman | Bio

1. Shouldn't you have jumped in front of that shoe?
2. Shouldn't you have jumped in front of that second shoe?
3. Second shoe = the one thrown after being removed from foot after first shoe was thrown.
4. Let's say people had three feet. Would you have allowed a third shoe to fly unimpeded?
5. While the shoe was in the air, were you like, "Oh, its just a shoe."
6. Same question about the second shoe.
7. Do you think this is funny, "Throw a shoe at me once, shame on--you. Throw a shoe--you throw a shoe, you can't throw a shoe again."
8. Is there not "protection training" for lunatics launching objects?
9. Let's say there isn't training for that--but do they tell you that if someone does throw (or shoot) something to be on the alert in case they want to repeat this behavior?
10. Where were you?
BONUS QUESTION: Do you think the Iraqis want us there? (Hint: their journalists are throwing their shoes at Bush)

Never even thought of the Secret Service.

That is a good question, where were they? Hmmm...

Busy making sure there were no guns around or stuff that could do a lot of damage I guess, what were they supposed to do? Make everyone remove their shoes first?

Too right! Ok, I would expect him to get a slap on the wrist and a fine but come on, we want to give free speech back to the Iraqis and then when then use it they get thrown in jail! Something not quite right there.
not drawing the connection between chucking shoes and our Commander-in-Chief's coconut and freedom of speech.

Granted, I think W is a douchetard, but I'm talking about respect for the office, regardless of who's occupying it. It pisses me off.

Mad props to W for the reflexes, though.

It was an Iraqi journalist that threw the shoe. Why would he respect the president when in their eyes he has torn their country apart? Being an American, do you have respect for every head of state? How about the president of Iran? Would you respect him.

And freedom of speech does not come into play here, this was in Iraq and under their laws. Our constitution doesn't apply there.

Bodyguards protect U.S. President George W. Bush after a shoe was thrown at him during a joint news conference in Baghdad December 14, 2008.

I agree and disagree. To wit:
That fucker is MY president, whether I like him or not, until Jan 21st, 2009. By golly until then I expect people of all nations to repect him as the occupant of the Office of President of the United States of America. I expect the same for Barry, from all nations, creeds and white supremacsts nuts - all of em. HE's THE FUCKING PRESIDENT!

Being an American, do you have respect for every head of state? How about the president of Iran? Would you respect him.
Apparently, throwing a shoe at someone in Iraq is the cultural equivalent of hocking a loogie in someone's face here - total disrespect. Were I to meet Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in person (who I believe is certfiably batshit crazy and a menace to peace and freedom) I can assure you that I would NOT spit in his face out of respect for his country and his office as a head of state, and would be COMPLETELY ashamed of any American that did so. It's wrong.

Now, would I like to kick him in the nuts and say, "THE HOLOCAUST HAPPENED, FUCKFACE!!!!" Damn straight, but not on live TV, eh?

And freedom of speech does not come into play here, this was in Iraq and under their laws. Our constitution doesn't apply there.
And here's where I agree, and why I told PP that the freedom of speech drumbeat was shit - doesn't apply one iota, but I'll tell you another thing: he shouldn't be held in custody for what he did. He should be thoroughly vetted because he menaced the President of the United States and that's not cool.

But if he says, "I just think Bush is a douchebag, that's all," then let him fly, I sez. That's just calling a spade a spade.

But if he would have had it in mind to assassinate or attempt to assassinate MY President (regardless of how I feel about him), then fuck that fucker - hang im high!

That Iraqi guy now has to spend the next 40 years in Guantanamo Bay without any shoes. He's gonna have very cold feet.

Some SS guy must have lost his job for not getting to the guy in time. Sure, Bush can dodge a shoe but what about a bullet.
