Never even thought of the Secret Service.
That is a good question, where were they? Hmmm...
Busy making sure there were no guns around or stuff that could do a lot of damage I guess, what were they supposed to do? Make everyone remove their shoes first?
Thousands demand release of Iraqi journalist who threw shoes at George W Bush. More..........
not drawing the connection between chucking shoes and our Commander-in-Chief's coconut and freedom of speech.Too right! Ok, I would expect him to get a slap on the wrist and a fine but come on, we want to give free speech back to the Iraqis and then when then use it they get thrown in jail! Something not quite right there.

Granted, I think W is a douchetard, but I'm talking about respect for the office, regardless of who's occupying it. It pisses me off.
Mad props to W for the reflexes, though.
It was an Iraqi journalist that threw the shoe. Why would he respect the president when in their eyes he has torn their country apart? Being an American, do you have respect for every head of state? How about the president of Iran? Would you respect him.
And freedom of speech does not come into play here, this was in Iraq and under their laws. Our constitution doesn't apply there.
I agree and disagree. To wit:It was an Iraqi journalist that threw the shoe. Why would he respect the president when in their eyes he has torn their country apart?
Apparently, throwing a shoe at someone in Iraq is the cultural equivalent of hocking a loogie in someone's face here - total disrespect. Were I to meet Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in person (who I believe is certfiably batshit crazy and a menace to peace and freedom) I can assure you that I would NOT spit in his face out of respect for his country and his office as a head of state, and would be COMPLETELY ashamed of any American that did so. It's wrong.Being an American, do you have respect for every head of state? How about the president of Iran? Would you respect him.
And here's where I agree, and why I told PP that the freedom of speech drumbeat was shit - doesn't apply one iota, but I'll tell you another thing: he shouldn't be held in custody for what he did. He should be thoroughly vetted because he menaced the President of the United States and that's not cool. And freedom of speech does not come into play here, this was in Iraq and under their laws. Our constitution doesn't apply there.
