Illegal Downloading.

ok...another senario.....as most here know i like bon jovi.....at the beggining of the last world tour.....walmart did a deal with the record company for a live 6 track E.P. to be recorded.....not so bad you might think.....well on contacting walmart i was politely told they wont ship out of america and canada....even though i offered to pay the extra shipping costs......eventually i got it off e'bay at an extortionate cost.......would downloading in such circumstances be acceptable?

and no.......i wont go near copied movies....i like the proper packaging and film quality

Nic, I've already posted the mathematics involved in piracy, and piracy of movies and music does put a pretty substantial dent in the profit of an actor. I've done the math, and as I said about two pages back, believe me when I say that illegally downloading even one movie from Youtube can take away almost 30-40% of a film maker's profits.

Nic, have you ever seen the behind the scenes of how a person makes a movie? That shit isn't easy. It takes a lot of money and hard work to make a movie, and it's wrong for us to steal it from them. No, downloading a movie doesn't literally cost them money right then, but they lose that customer, and therefore lose profits.

Nic, let's say you opened a DVD store. I walk in, grab all the DVDs I like, and walk out, without paying for them. You'd call the cops on me for theft, obviously. It's the same situation online, only the DVD store is bigger, and there's more people to try and catch, who have smarter ways of hiding.

I already told you Nic, I can't fight what I can't see, but I do volunteer work for the MPAA, so don't go around bragging about what movie you pirated from what site, or I'll report the site and you to the MPAA. As I also said earlier in this thread, the MPAA isn't something to fuck with, they'll give you up to $150,000 in fines for piracy, and up to 90 days in jail.

So if I download a movie, which would cost me at the most 20 bucks, thats taking up to 40% of the film maker's profit. I doubt they'll really miss that 20 bucks.

I also agree with Haus, a tad bit of hypocrisy there Dodge.

Also on a side note my name is Nick, I just chose NicAuf since its the first three letters of my first and last name. For some reason it bugs me when I see my name spelt Nic. :D Must be an OCD thing.

Damn the man... I say its ok. Hell most everything else I do is illegal anyway. I run a overloaded, overweight big truck at 75+ in restricted lanes, run a illegal CB radio, and download just about anything from music to german pron. I'll get caught up in something one of these days, but even then I prob won't give two shits.

Damn killer.. I would have gotten it and sent it to you if you sent a money order for the CD and shipping.

No. Besides, things on Ebay are usually CHEAPER if you find the right ones.

There is always an alternative to piracy. Did you read the post above? Have an American buy it and ship it to you.

just WOW. i just lost alot of respect for you.

you admited to pirating earlier in the thread. so i guess someone should report you. eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth;)
your a hipocryte dude

When did I say that? Unless you're referring to the "Help Me Out!" thread, in which I said I would RENT the movie.

If you're talking about me owning Limewire, I pay for it. Which is actually going to change to not having Limewire if they continue sucking this badly.

I think the issue was settled a few pages back but just purchasing Limewire doesn't make it legal. There was a news story of a little girls parents getting sued for doing just that, paying for a P2P and assuming it was legal. Limewire was and is intended for the faster sharing of freeware, we're just supposed to stay away from all those nasty free CDs and movies. But my views on downloading, if I think the artist deserves it, I'll buy the CD, even though they don't see much profit. I'm not going to buy a $10.00-$15.00 so I can listen to one song. I think artists should stop worrying about who's downloading their music and start worrying about writing enough good songs to fill a CD so people will buy it. But I do suppose the record companies do have quite a bit to do with the whole downloading thing, and I really don't care about their profit.

I always hated downloading songs due to the sound quality usually sounding like crap. I will just go buy the cd if I want it that bad.

Dodge, let me put this very clearly for you... If you download songs from Limewire, you are stealing those songs. You can pay $1000 a month to Limewire and it's still stealing.

The ONLY legal way to download music is to use sites that charge you on a per download basis. Like itunes where songs cost $.99 each. It is only those sites that pay the artist.

Well in that case, I'll switch to this other bad-ass site I have which does the $.99 a song thing.

SNOCAP

Which also works out perfectly because I have Paypal, and they accept that

Me personally, I use iTunes...my brother uses Morpheus however...IMHO I think that if it were really THAT huge of a deal the Feds would be shutting down WAAAAAAY more of these phishing sites than they are....the only ones you really hear about are ones like Napster....
