Me personally, I use iTunes...my brother uses Morpheus however...IMHO I think that if it were really THAT huge of a deal the Feds would be shutting down WAAAAAAY more of these phishing sites than they are....the only ones you really hear about are ones like Napster....

Thing is, it's difficult to track down those peer to peer sites the way they have their setup organised. That's what I think. Plus they say it's just users sharing one another's stuff.

i dont really download anymore. the things i use suck so if i want to hear a song ill just search for it on youtube and just listen to it from there.

i for one dont like paying 20.00 for CD when all i want on the CD is one song. if i want to watch a movie ill just rent it or go to game stop and pick it up used.

but the law should worry about other more important things. like Stopping Murders or catching the murderers, druggies, stop other serious crimes instead of worrying about Piracy all the damn time

i heard on the news one day. no lie

"mother and son brutally shot to death, Suspect is mothers husband and boys step father"

" 3 Philadelphia soldiers killed today in iraq"

"Cop Gunned down on South street"

"but the big story on action news is the government tracking down or piracy"

:wtf:

get you god damn prioritys straight

You do have a point....

My thing is, there are so many artists these days who are coming out with all this crappy stuff, and there's usually only one or two songs that I like by them, so instead of buying an entire CD that I will never listen to, I download. Example...

I LOVE the song Hate Me by Blue October....I absolutely despise everything else they have out....tried to download it one day and my roommate throws a HUGE hissy fit over it....so to make her happy I tell her I will buy the whole CD (I'm thinking like $10-$15) WRONG! Their damn CD is 30 freakin' dollars! FORGET THAT!

I went home and downloaded it :ninja

Yeah, that's the popular consensus shared by most.

I somehow don't think it affects sales that much. If anything it may tend to give more exposure to artists by way of...well...exposure.

But you're thinking about the statistics on a small scale. There are many people that will only like one song, so they download it. Let's use Blue October as an example.

Say that 50,000 people decide they only like one song on the CD, so rather than paying that $30 to buy the CD, they download the song. That's $30 lost for each person. $30 times 50,000 is $1,500,000 lost. See how that works? Same with DVD sales or movie tickets. A movie that is on DVD is pirated and released on Youtube. Let's say that around 50,000 people pirate it from Youtube, rather than pay the $15 to buy the DVD. That's over $750,000 lost. Sure, it may not seem like a lot, but there are many more than just 50,000 people pirating this stuff, so it ends up making a decent impact.

If DVD's cost $15, I wouldn't feel the need to download it. It's the new one's that cost $30 fucking dollars that piss me off. That disk cost less than a dollar. They don't need $29 on every DVD sold. It's a blatant rip off.

I understand what you mean, the newer ones being expensive, but at the same time, it's gotta take more money to do the album art, add all the extra features and shit to the DVD, set up the DVD's menus and stuff, etc.

But I do think that DVD prices play a big part in piracy. Lowering prices would help to stop it.

The album art is usually just the movie poster on the front and pics from the movie on the back.

And don't get me started on the bonus material! Deleted scenes are NOT gonna make me buy a movie. THEY WERE FUCKING DELETED! If they were that important or good, they would've been in the movie. And the Director Commentary? Why the fuck would I sit there for 2 hours watching the movie, but not be able to watch the movie because he's talking the whole time??? :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly:

I guess the album are is understandable as well, but I like seeing some of the possible stuff that coudl have been in the movie. Like right now, I'm watching Live Free or Die Hard Unrated(Mind you, it's BRAND NEW, just came out last week, only $19.95), and it's much better than the theatrical. It's good to see the old Die Hard staples, rather than some PG-13 shit. As for commentaries, I love those. Funny shit on the SAW II commentary :24:

Agreed. The new Pirates 2-disc limited edition is only $24.95, Live Free or Die Hard is only $19.95.

I suck at maths. Figures have the effect of giving me a "blond" moment. So you'll be much better at crunching them.

Personally, using the Youtube vids/movies as an example I won't watch movies on Youtube. Clips maybe. Don't have the patience for the download time. Plus there's the quality factor. I'd much prefer to buy original movies in pristine condition and packaging and watch them at leisure on my 40" HD LCD TV. I also enjoy taking them in at the movies when they premier and also buy those that are outstanding on DVD when they are released.

Personally I think the computer downloading age has brought prices of CDs down a lot! I know that USA has always been cheaper than Britain for this but the top selling latest CDs here are now round about £10 when a few years ago they could be as much as £16

A little perspective from a current artist:
50 Cent: File-Sharing Doesn’t Hurt Artists, Industry Should Adapt | TorrentFreak

Also exactly how I feel about the situation. The Only people illegal downloading will hurt is the record companies. Once the artists break away from the record company and sell their music by themselves digitally, there will be little use, if not no use at all for record companies. Hence why the RIAA is extremely gung ho with prosecuting downloaders. Their days are numbered.

The music industry brought this on themselves, really. They've been overcharging and using stupid sales policies forEVER. The industry will have to change with the times or they can't really blame people for "illegally" downloading stuff.

Oh, and major artists make their money from merch, shows and sponsors. CD sales hardly make them money.
