When it comes to sexual assault then no, obviously even if you're wearing the equivalent of two plasters and a belt, that doesn't give anyone the right to touch you without your consent.

I think if you dress a certain way though, you should be prepared for the fact that people will judge you. Not even men - other women will look at a girl dressed a certain way and make a judgement about her, you can't help it. Some of the girls you see on nights out honestly appear to have no self-respect - I saw a girl once who was completely trashed, and she had no pants on. How do I know that? Because this guy was dancing behind her and pulling her dress up, and she didn't even realise. Her skirt was that short to begin with.

So you know, dress how you want, but there is a line between sexy and looking like a skank, and if you look like a skank then people are going to make assumptions about your character. That still doesn't mean they should or would try to rape you, but it can still affect how they treat you.

I have to agree with you but also disagree a little
you can have a dress that for most will say it is slutty but actually it is not the dress as you point out here what she was doing first she was drunk and could not control what other were doing

my opinion is you can dress like a whore but depends of your attitude you can look like a Josephine
or a street whore
with the same dress

so i think was her attitude mostly and not the dress

Sure, part of it is attitude. Put two girls in the same dress, one of them can pull it off, one of them makes it look trashy.

Still, wearing hotpants, fishnet tights, thigh high boots and a boob tube, stuff like that - dressing that way gives off an image. It's like wearing tracksuits and baseballs caps then complaining that people think you're a chav. If you don't want people to perceive you a certain way, it's easy to tone it down or ramp it up or whatever, and yeah, part of changing your image can be changing the attitude you have as well.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I asked " who decides what a slut is ". Nobody has tackled that question yet.

Depends where you live, who you are, who your friends are....

It's not going to be exactly the same for everyone. I could tell you what it's like for me and my friends, for the area we live, but for the americans maybe there's a different picture in their head.

In general, I'd guess most people would define a slut as a girl who dresses like she has no self-respect, could be mistaken for a hooker, and isn't too picky about the men who get to dance with her/feel her up on the dancefloor. I went out a few weeks ago and this girl who was there by herself was getting wasted and dancing with pretty much anyone who would have. Anything that could have been used as a pole to dance around was used. A guy only had to walk past her for her to rub up against him, and her dress was too short in either direction. That's slutty where I come from. Maybe that's normal for some people :p

The world is face value. It sucks, but that's the way it is. I've noticed a dramatic difference in the way I'm treated in public after losing all the weight. People smile at you more. Talk to you randomly when waiting in line. Say excuse me and thank you. Offer a hand to shake more often. It makes me sick to think I wasnt good enough to get these responses 5 months ago beause someone judged me due to my weight. BUT! Weight is different than clothing. Clothing is like making a statement. You dont have to get up and wear that particular clothing. You can change clothing. I don't feel bad for someone that gets judged off their clothes cause they knew what they were doing when they chose to wear it and its not permanent. They can go home, change and try again. Or stick to their convictions. In the end, its their decision whether they want to go against the grain or not.

In stores items are on clear and open display, but you're still not supposed to just take them.

Does make it easier though.

By 'slutty' I take it you mean revealing? IMO, it's pretty bad when a woman can't do a bit of revealing without having to worry about being labelled or even worse...being physically abused. There are all different types of men out there, thank God...lol..and they all have different tastes, some men like legs, some like ass or boobs, some even say that a womans shoulders turn them on, heck, I've even had a man tell me that he was an 'eye' man.....how much of us has to be covered up in order to keep calm the savage beast? Is that a womans responsibility? The burqa somehow comes to mind....lol....:p

That being said, we're living in the 21st century here, women have been pleasing themselves for years, in more ways than one I might add....lol..if she can bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan then she can damn well wear what she wants to wear without having to worry about something that's completely out of her control. I say that if you don't like it then don't look and if you like it so much that you have to have it even by force..............then the issue here isn't really with the dress......know what I mean?;)

No matter how a woman dresses it does not give a man the right to have his way with her. No means no.

This has been my observation over the years...

The people that tend to roll their eyes and pass judgment on a "slutty" dress are typically people that don't have the body or looks to wear something like that. So I would say that it's mostly jealousy...

There is nothing wrong with hot chicks dressing extremely sexy in the right settings. We have a club near us that cater to hot women and couples. It's similar to skin parties in NYC where only fit and attractive couples and sexy single women are allowed in. The reason for this type of setting is so the women can wear very sexy and revealing clothes on the dance floor without desperate single men hitting on them. I can tell you that it's the best nightlife you can find, an entire club filled with attractive people dressing seductively.

I think of sexy as covered but nicely dressed. It's possible to be sexy and not show off a lot of skin. But just because skin is showing doesn't mean it's slutty- there's a way to not be trashy/tacky with revealing clothes.

And using a woman's clothing as an excuse for sexual harassment/assault/rape is the most asinine thing I have ever heard. Talk about a weak justification for a man with no control or sense of human decency.

I actually disagree. I've had multiple friends who would sob to me about how they only attract douchebags and don't get why they have such bad luck with guys. I don't have the heart to tell them that if they buy and wear a few respectable, non-trashy outfits a good guy might talk to them. Because that's what it comes down to. They're great girls with a lot to offer, but their image hides that.
I know I wouldn't approach a guy dressed like Flavor Flav. He might be insightful, but I'd never find out. Sad to say but it's the truth.

I think every woman should watch at least 10 episodes of What Not To Wear lol.
