I grew up in a fundamentalist home. So I've heard many of those comments from people in my old church. I go to a UU church now which is a lot different of course. It makes me sad when I think of my old friends. They're not bad people but it warps you when you grow up in that kind of environment. It took me many years to recover after I got out.

They weren't 'atheist regimes', they were just bad people. There's no rule book or set of guidelines that all atheists agree to follow like you get in religion. If you do something bad and you're an atheist, you can't say 'but I'm an atheist and that's what we do'.

Whereas if religious people do something bad, they get to say 'I'm doing it because God told me it was okay'.

Good point. Atheism, Christianity, Islam, etc. are not oppressive per se. Intolerance and totalitarianism cause oppression. If you live in a tolerant and free society then it doesn't matter much what religion, if any, is practiced. Abolishing religion won't make the world a better place. But abolishing intolerance where ever it is found will.

There weren't even a billion people on earth in that period. There were probably weren't even half a billion. The Spanish killed a few million at most. lol at killing billions.

I don't know of any "mass murder" in the name of atheism
I know of plenty of wars in the name of religion.
I believe the crusades has been mentioned, a prime undisputed example. Now correct me.

So you are saying that Atheist regimes were the most murderous because they were atheist?
Because these regimes were also run by men... so does that mean that men are the most murderous?
We can correlate many different things to these regimes but that does not mean it was the cause of the murder they perpetrated.

As someone has said before, no one kills in the name of atheism, but it is very common for people to kill in the name of religion.

No thank you, because I don't believe it has anything to do with religion. For the most part, it's to do with evil....God doesn't command this of anybody. Are you seriously gonna sit there and tell us that what Osama Bin Laden stood for had anything to do with God??? He was a killer, a sadistic murdering bastard....end of story.
