Where did I ever make the comment that pushing a bathroom door into someone is acceptable, particularly in a work environment? My comment about the door "incident" was directed towards the fact no one here knows EXACTLY what happened. I might of missed it, but did the OP receive abrasions or anything noticeable to her body due to the door swinging into her?

For some reason retro, I could see you go crying to your boss because the person sitting across from you is looking at you strange LMFA

Personally, if I was going to push a bathroom door into someone to cause them harm, I'd be following up with the tire iron.

You called it childish that she talked to her boss about it... which implies that you don't think it was a big deal. I'm merely stating that as the incident was described, it seems very clear that it was a case of assault and battery.

Person A and Person B have a verbal interaction, Person B doesn't like it and follows Person A and pushes a door into them.

Re: i was assualted

What world are you from?:24:

I've seen too many people gone for pissing off the wrong people, added the fact that those same people (let go) couldn't generate enough money for the company to miss them enough.

Now, if you can generate revenue for the company where others can't, they'll put up with your crap:D

I know what world I am from..

Do you think generating money is the only way to be of value to your company.. WOW... If you own a company I would quit tomorrow as an employee of yours. That type of thinking is what keeps Unions alive and strong..

I'm not Joe, obviously, but I will say that a lot of times you DO have to brown nose to progress in your career. When I was promoted to Sergeant back in April every phone call I got was asking me how I managed to get promoted to Sergeant when I don't kiss ass. They work at a different department than I do, though...things don't work that way around here. I said long ago that if I can't progress on my merits alone, I don't want to.

Sorry for the thread hijack, Staci.

Giving up your dignity to move up in an un-rightful manner has always proven a mistake..

Kissing up or brown-nosing will always earn you less respect from everyone including your boss. As I just posted, there will always be someone who can kiss ass and brown-nose better than you. If you can earn this on your work merits than there is something awfully wrong.. Sorry..

No need to apologize to me...I earned my position based on my job performance and dedication, NOT for any brown-nosing. ;)

I have no doubt you did..

It irks me those who think it's the fastest way up.. It's actually the fastest way to destroy a career IMO..

In my 10 years in the Government I saw many brown nosers who saw it as a way to move up fast while doing nothing.. As soon as they got into management they were seen for who they were and gone in weeks.

I have also seen shit disturbers that got what was coming to them.. Karma is a bitch when she gets mad. :D

Bad habits die hard..

The faster you rise, the faster you usually fall.. Few are those that manager to stay at the top unless your a daddy's / mommy's boy in a family company..

Re: i was assualted

I didn't know they paid you to tell people that "I'm not really talking today" when someone asks you a question.

Flip side to this story is you could be the one coming across as arrogant and a butt hole.

On a side note, telling someone you know the law because you're a criminal justice major is both lame and sad. BFD LOL

first of all i am on medical leave so i shouldnt had been there anyway! second of all i dont have to talk to anyone if i dont want to. i am not her supervisor....

and think what you want lame or not im not gonna have some bitch in my facing trying to tell me what i do and dont know

Even if it were the OP's "own time", the response could from the OP could of been worded with more professionalism.

Added the fact that if you want to climb up the ladder, you not only have to brown nose and be lucky at times, you also have to do things related to work that could or may have to be done "off the clock".

Reading the original story, it kind of reminds me of two third graders going at it. One thing going at it like school children on an internet forum, another doing it at work in front of a supervisor.

first of all this is not a debate thread so i dont like you coming into this and trying to make it one!

second of all you do not know me at all, other do, and know my situation. so until you have put yourself in my shoes and walked in them....STFU ;)

The fact is you don't know how hard the bath room door was pushed into the OP, nor do you know if the person who pushed the bathroom door open was even trying to cause the OP harm. Or do you??

General rule...if you go into work on your day off, their is a chance that you may get caught into some other work that you hadn't planned (guess why? because you're there!), and if you don't want to deal with it, there is a right way to handle it and a wrong way to handle it. From what I've read, the OP handled it the wrong way.

you do not know either how hard the door was slammed into me!

i am on medical leave and was asked but the OWNER of the company to come in and do these 2 memos. again you dont know me, and trust me i handled it the right way

Retro, sometimes you have your head so far up your butt I wonder if you really know what color the sky is.

From the OP's own statement, you have no clue as to what actually happened other than the fact that the OP thought the door was forcefully pushed into her.

Yeah, cops would really love to come out to this one and take a statement:24:

Other than observing the situation first hand, the only information ANYONE here is basing their opinion on is from the OP. Seems I'm the only one that realizes that.

ok mr weak...since you seem to know EVERYTHING i have talked to several police officers and all agree that i have a pot to piss in :D

One little curveball to think about if there is any legal steps that are taken. Were you asked to come in "on your own time" in some form of written communication? I hope so and that you saved it. If lawyers ever get involved every little detail will be nitpicked, and I could easily see one such weasel making the claim that the company was not liable because you were not there in an "employee" role since you were technically NOT working and NOT under their authority.

Not taking a side, just pointing out a loose end I hope you consider if need be.

You can file a complaint against anyone. The question is if it's going to stick.

You're right, I don't know how hard the door was "slammed" into you, nor does anyone else here. The first and easiest way to determine how hard the door was slammed into you was if you had a physical bruise, fractured/broken bones or require any medical attention?

Like I said, there are three sides to a story. Anyone can rant their own side. I could see if this was a Dana story everyone would be getting on his butt for some reason.

I sincerely hope you can do a little better than "Mr. Weak" :24:

You're also right in the fact that I don't know you or your work ethic, but at times that can be an advantage. It is possible that the person was actually trying to cause you harm, I honestly don't know. BUT...given what you have written about events, I can see your actions as being perceived differently from the people you work with.

First, I didn't say that brown nosing was the fastest way up. It never hurts though at the right time. That's a fact of life.

Secondly, you being a government employee explains a lot:D

Third, per your comment about unions, unions came into being due to greed and mismanagement IMO. With GOOD management and profit sharing, you stand a good chance of keeping your employees. I also worked in a union after college looking for a job, and the union HAD to be worse than management. Two things I'll always remember is getting bitched at by the union guys for doing my monkey see monkey do computer garbage work in half the time of anyone else and then having nothing do (I made everyone look bad, though they we're doing nothing more than milking their time IMO). When I got bored and started to clean the place because I had nothing to do, I got bitched at because it wasn't my "job". Yeah, those guys really loved their job LOL AND you may not believe it, but some companies who buy out a union company are required in some states by law (I guess, I'm not sure as I'm no legal expert) to vote on keeping the union or kicking them out. As it happens, my wife's "northern company" had to do that. Guess what? The owners actually take care of their people and the union guys after looking at the company that bought them decided to kick the union out. Not saying that unions haven't served a purpose due to greed and mismanagement, but they aren't always the solution.

Fourth, I didn't say generating money for the company is the only value an employee has. Re read what I said.

One would hope from your physical appearance you can do better than "Joe the geek guy":24:

Just returning the favor, nothing more;)

Per your comment about hijacking the thread, if someone were to come on here bitching about how a they hit a kid out on the street and their car sustained damage due to the collision, well, I'm sorry, but I'll point out another view on the circumstances.

Your own words hang you and your credibility is shot by by those words.

As far as working for the Government, I did that as a kid, and did it for 10 years. I have long since moved on but in that time I worked in two departments. Health and Welfare ( FDA ) and the CRA ( IRS ) and saw some good people and some very bad ones.. The reality in those departments is that are brown nosers get to move up so they can be disposed of by management.

I am my own my own business as a sub-contractor with employees and treat them with respect and am well respected.

I expect respect and for those who work with me to return that respect back to them.. When you ask someone to brown nose, you are asking them to give up that respect of both of you.

I never said you have to ask someone to brown nose. I stated that it never hurts to brown nose. I also made the comment that you still need to be good at what you do. Fact of life is just because you're good at your job does not mean you're automatically going to get promoted.

You and I are different. I don't expect respect, I expect to earn respect, no matter what position I'm in. Kind of strange that even military and civilian life is so different from one another, that leadership values don't really change between the two IMO.

The fact is the OP has admitted that they could have symptoms that could lead them to view events differently from others. As I've said BEFORE, there are three sides to a story. We're only getting one.

You're 100% dead wrong there. When I was a manager, the guys that brown nosed me got canned or ignored when it came time to promote from within... even if they were good at what they did. I don't have the time to waste on someone that is focused on flattering people in order to get noticed... I want someone that lets their work speak for them, and that's it. I know for a fact that there are plenty of other managers out there that feel the exact same way that I do. But maybe that's just because of my industry.

Yet you're taking the side that the way she handled things was dead wrong... despite only hearing one side of it. You've effectively condemned her and blasted anyone that thinks what happened was fucked up. I'm impressed in your ability to come across as such a hypocrite in such a short span of time.
