To answer the question someone asked about HPV...in a lot of women who are infected the virus will go away after a few years. I don't think they know why, though.
We're learning about this in health. :yuk
hey count yourself lucky.
we didn't learn anything in health.
I learned about where my vagina was, and where a baby could grow inside me, but not how or what diseases I could get or anything...
I started getting the Gardasil vaccination when I was 18 and started the depo provera (before I was having sex). Then my insurance ran out, after like two out of the six shot series or however many it is, and I haven't had the opportunity to either pick up where I left off or start over.
HPV is something I've actually been kinda freaked out about, myself. God knows cancer runs in the family.
I can say I went through what sounds like the same as KLD.
When I was pregnant with Michael (never heard of DS being interwebs lingo I'll use my kids names) they found cancerous cells in my cervix. I had to go through being scrapped and having my cervix froze. In the end it got rid of the cancerous cells, but it was not HPV. Still scary when you have to go through it that's for sure.
And I didn't figure Cervical cancer was hereditary, but isn't susceptibility to cancer hereditary?
I don't know if that applies to things such as viruses though. Cervical Cancer is supposed to be different from all others because it is caused by a virus and not just the "bad cells" that turn into cancer.
That's probably true.
But with how EASY it is to get HPV these days, I still wouldn't want to risk it. I'll have to schedule an appointment with my doctor to find out what I can do about the injection.
no prob! had me wondering as well! LoL like i said, it had been 5 years since last talking to my dr about it! but i do remember asking about it and him saying that pregnancy and a vaginal birth will help with 'curing' itok so I made an ass of myself - sorry KLD!
There are about 40 types of HPV that can infect the genital areas of men and women. Most HPV types cause no symptoms and go away on their own. But some types can cause cervical cancer in women and other less common genital cancers— like cancers of the anus, vagina, and vulva (area around the opening of the vagina). Other types of HPV can cause warts in the genital areas of men and women, called genital warts. Genital warts are not a life-threatening disease. But they can cause emotional stress and their treatment can be very uncomfortable.

Im on the Depo! havent had a period (or PMS) in *5* years!! i dont have insurance, and my depo is only $40 to fill every 3 months (i inject it myself)I started getting the Gardasil vaccination when I was 18 and started the depo provera (before I was having sex). Then my insurance ran out, after like two out of the six shot series or however many it is, and I haven't had the opportunity to either pick up where I left off or start over.

And just a FYI
When the doctor needs to freeze your cervix and scrape the cells. It's because he sees abnormal cell growth which can mean the onset of cancer, but it DOES NOT mean it's cancer. They actually need to test those extracted cells to know.
But by identifying abnormal cells and removing them, it can prevent it from progressing to cancer. It doesn't mean you are in the clear, but it stops those cells from progressing any further.
It's actually more common than you think to find abnormal cells. And it's very few of these cases that have cancer.
Bottom line, get your yearly pap
