Being a Christian and using the Bible as your source document, what about the Gospel of Judas. Does that throw a wrench in the works or is it just easier to discount because it does not fall within your established dogma?

what God is u talking about.. because its clear u dont have an understanding of who or what God is. i dont understand why u guys keep asking questions if u have no intention of getting to know the creator... I see it like this, why waste ur time and energy if you are not trying to get to know him? u should live ur life and hope that in the end there is no God that will judge us all.

How can anyone understand God when the bible itself says that he cannot be understood?

It says he is unfathomable and yet scriptures claim to be able to fathom the unfathomable and has unravelled his mysterious ways. A clear contradiction.

You may think you have gotten to know him through the bible but many do not believe that the bible is worthy of it's name. Here is part of the reason for that.

It was God's plan from thebeginning to have Adam and Eve eat the forbidden fruit. This can bedemonstrated by the fact that the bible says that Jesus "was crucifiedfrom the foundations of the Earth," that is to say, God planned to crucifyJesus as atonement for sin before he even created human beings or God damnedsin.

If God had not intended humans to sin from the beginning, why did he build intothe Creation this "solution" for sin? Why create a solution for aproblem you do not anticipate?

God knew that the moment he said "don't eat from that tree," the diewas cast. The eating was inevitable. Eve was merely following the plan.

This then begs the question.

What kind of God would plan and execute the murder of his own son when therewas absolutely no need to?

Only an insane God. That’s who.

The cornerstone of Christianity is human sacrifice, thus showing it‘s immorality.

One of Christianity's highest form of immorality is what they have doneto women.
They have denied them equality and subjugated them to men.

by asking and not believing, it shows one has an opened mind and passes no judgement on people who believes differently and accepts and respects that people do believe differently!

I do not believe in not judging or having respect for others beliefs if I see something wrong with them.

It is my view that all literalists and fundamentals hurt all of us whoare Religionists.
They all hurt their parent religions and everyone else who has a belief. They make us all into laughing stocks and should rethink their position. Thereis a Godhead but not the God of talking animals, genocidal floods andretribution. Belief in fantasy is evil.

You can't literally speak to God, just like you can't speak to dead relatives or anything of the sort. I think God answers all your prayers, just not always the way you want.

I don't believe that I don't have the right to question God. I've questioned God on numerous occasions. But I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. The reason isn't always necessarily clear at the time. I do think God can be a little cruel. I find it hard to believe that he is "perfect" and "just". Bad things happen to good people plenty. But, in the long run, I believe it's for a reason. Whether it be a lesson or to open the doors to something bigger and better.

I see what some would call wishful thinking.
It is like saying that I do not know why it hurts but it must be good for me.
I do try to speak to your view in this following topic if you would like to comment there.

Can you honestly answer these questions:

1. How did you become aware of your God?
Childhood Indoc?

2. How did you become aware of your God's expectations and rules?
Ancient book?

3. How did you decide that God is perfect? An assumption that the vast knowledge required to create all things as we know it equates to perfection?

4. How did you decide God is omnipotent? If a being is really really powerful, do you have the perspective to judge the limits of it's power? Can power be so vast that it's possible God exists in a hierarchy of powerful beings of which we no nothing?

5. How did you decide you owe God your allegiance? Is it because God created you, God's power to destroy you or thoroughly mess up your spiritual life?

6. How did you decide that God demands obedience and especially worship? That is what church says as they collect your donations?

6. How did you decide you don't have the right to question God?
You might as well ask, how did you decide that mutual respect is important in every relationship you have except the relationship you have with God that relegates you to a slave with no rights to a contrary opinion? It's God's way or the highway.

.

My answers.
1. Through apotheosis. Direct contact.
2. Same.
3. I did not and the Godhead is not. Perfect asmost use that word means finished. If any God were finished and complete thenwe and our souls and all the information that is us could never be added to God’sknowledge base.
4. The God I know is not all powerful. It is moreof a cosmic consciousness that we join at death.
5. I do not owe the Godhead anything in the sensethat it expects payment. I do owe it thanks for allowing me access to it andallowing me to know it is real. I do owe it for the advice given.
6. It is my duty to question and judge God on allissues.

...........................

apotheosis:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apotheosis

excerpt::
In theology, the term apotheosis refers to the idea that an individual has been raised to godlike stature.

OK....you're claiming to be godlike.
So then, how come I so easily tear you a new one so frequently in your pot and Illuminati threads, o' great and wise holy person?

( just asking
:D )

edit:
Surely a god would have seen that one coming?
But if you're only god-like,,,,,,that would mean similar, not necessarily equal.
So what are your range of powers o' great holy person of somewhat limited infinite wisdom ( LOL! ) ?

I shall quote the party line. "The non-canonical gnostic gospels are not consistent with the established canonical gospels, particularly the synoptic gospels - therefore their content is... dubious at best." That's the last of my thoughts on the matter ;)

So gospels that demand belief in fantasy, miracles and magic, that show that talking animals and a God who would have his son needlessly murdered are better and truth.
Ok for those who can self-delude themselves but not for anyone who can think.

An interesting position. I was in another forum talking about psychics and was asked why was my bar set so low? This was coming from a Christian (I think). Regarding the quality of standards, what really makes one 2000 year old document better than another when neither of them have one shred of proof associated with them? :)

We all could be God-like in sharing various attributes or an elevated awareness. :)

1. How did you become aware of your God?
I went to Sunday School as a child, sung in the choir at church too. It all sounded as preposterous to me then as it does now.

2. How did you become aware of your God's expectations and rules?
Again from Sunday School.

3. How did you decide that God is perfect?
When I realised we can imagine anything to be perfect. The human imagination is a wonderful thing.

4. How did you decide God is omnipotent?
I never came to that conclusion.

5. How did you decide you owe God your allegiance?
I didn't. I figured, if He does in fact exist, he would be forgiving enough to understand my reasons for not believing in him. Otherwise, He's not particularly nice and why would I pledge allegiance to someone who isn't very nice?

6. How did you decide that God demands obedience and especially worship?
Ok well clearly religion is a little different in the UK. I was Church of England, even the men of the cloth don't believe in that kind of nonsense. God in their eyes, isn't demanding. He's compassionate, super-intelligent and way above petty human emotions and demands.

6. How did you decide you don't have the right to question God?
I didn't. I think that's a very, very stupid idea.

I like this.

A lot of frailties and character traits go with being human.
'God-like' (perfection) just isn't on that list. Imperfection is pretty high on it, so I'm told :D
Amazing we've gotten as far as we have with out self extermination/extinction.
I have a feeling someone is working on that and willing to share ( )

It would be a better world built on sharing, but let's face it.....look around just this forum alone....much of what is shared ( conceptually ) is hate centric. From the fundamentalist to the gnostic to the atheist to politics and economics and just about any social issue imaginable. We all do it to some degree. We share in rejection, too. That's what makes debating fun :D

Yes. We are doing quite well with many of the markers for evil being the lowest per capita in history. Like violent death and slavery.

Are you claiming that is justification for claiming yourself to be god-like?

So, again, why do you argue for legalization of drug abuse since it obviously reduces morality and family values?

Honestly.....that doesn't seem very god-like at all.

No. I am not the cause. I just report the facts.

I thought that being in God's image we all were.

I have never argued for legalization of drug abuse.

That would be silly and I tire of correcting your idiocies.

Well I don't have a clue, but when I imagine God-like, I'm not including perfection which is no where in sight. If you imagine the possibility of spirits and a spiritual connection to a higher power, if we have a connection we could share some attributes, such as awareness which is not very much. ;)

Other than Christ, I'm not aware of any other human being remotely in the category of being 'god-like' and certainly not GIA as he infers.
