This isn't directed at you, Dana. I was talking about this last night with Boomie, and it got me thinking.

Homophobes make me laugh. Why you might ask? Because it seems like the only reason that most of these people hate homosexuals is because they think that said homosexual wants to have intercourse with them because they are the same sex.

Anyone who thinks this gives themselves too much credit.

Just because a guy is a homosexual, doesn't mean that BECAUSE you are male that he instantly has to fuck you.

I am not expert on the homosexual psyche, but I assume it works the same way as the heterosexual psyche. People like people for many different reasons.

As I said above I feel that people are mostly homophobic because they think that the said homosexuals MUST want to fuck them because they are the same sex.

Honestly, I think a lot of homophobes are in fear of "turning" gay, which either completely disgusts them for biological reasons or religious ones or both. "If I turn gay I'm going to hell!" (not saying all religious people are homophobes at all, I just know that a lot of the fear comes from fundamentalist religious views where homosexuality is a huge sin and unforgivable) I can imagine someone who believes that homosexuality is a crime against nature or god and may have had a stray (and totally normal, btw) homosexual thought might feel intense fear that it means they will be damned or ruined.

Some people also feel homosexuality will ruin families, ruin the world, basically, like they are "taking over" and will soon be the majority.

Hard to say, I'm sure there are a lot of reasons and they're all obviously irrational. I find it incredibly pathetic. I pity people who have so little perspective in life they can do nothing but hate gay people.

I think there are many different reasons for homophobia - some people were just raised that way. If you grow up being told that gays are going to hell, you're unlikely to believe any different, especially if your community isn't mixed enough to dilute that opinion with outside influences. Then there are people who deeply fear being gay themselves - they might have an attraction to the same sex but this usually conflicts with their beliefs to the extent that they'll either never admit it to themselves, or they'll talk about it like a curse and seek 'treatment' so they can be 'cured' - which they genuinely believe is possible.

I feel sorry for people who still truly believe there's something wrong with loving another human being who just happens to have the same sexual equipment. Of all the things to object to, it's so 90's.

It wouldn't make any difference at all to me about how I feel about them. Having said that I would probably worry that they might face prejudice and have a harder time because of it.

I'm not with or against homosexuality, but if someone asked my opinion on the subject and asked strictly for a yes-no answer, I'd have to say that homosexuality is wrong. My reasoning is that it is counter-reproductive, so it is not natural.

But, in itself, what is natural is very dependent on your own point of view. Some say that mutations are not natural, some say they are; some say that faith is not a natural phenomenon, some say it is, et cetera.

I do not despise homosexuals, but I still feel a bit uneasy with someone having such strong emotions for a member of the same sex. Much like life, it is a complicated issue.

If only 'twere to me. I just have some odd hitch with the whole thought. Perhaps trauma from being called a fag too many times as a kid? That would be the perfect escape for my ideas, but nah, it is not.
