Couple of issues right off the bat that are driving me nuts.

1 - I want my " Windows Explorer " folder to show on my desktop as a " shortcut ". I have been able to get one there but not the one I want. All I want to see when I open the thing is my drives and the folders that are under them. I don't want to see things like " Favorites - Library - Homegroups - networks etc" Just the bloody drives and folders is all. How do I do that?

2 - How do I get a folder for all my installed programs on the desktop as a " shortcut "? I wanna be able to open the folder and access / see the programs without pissin' around with the " Start " button.

btw... the bastards took Outlook Express away! WTF for? If it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm waiting for my ISP to call me back and I'll get my e-mail going before I go to bed if it's the last fucking thing I do today.

Last bit, you have to use Windows Live Mail (part of the hotmail/msn messenger) essentially the same thing, I don't know why they took it away so you had to download a basically irrelevant software

Not quite sure what you are going on about 1 & 2, but hazard to guess you want windows explorer to open everytime on your desktop? What I don't get is why the heck do you want that? It is already opened, isn't it? Or if you got so many windows opened, right click the taskbar and select "Show the Desktop" that should minimise all windows. About 2, don't you use shortcuts on your desktops?

I have the e-mail issue resolved. I needed some info from my ISP and they called me bcak last evening.

It doesn't matter why I want other than that's the way I've been dealing with my files ( pictures etc } for years.

I guess I should have said " shortcuts " because that's exactly what I'm looking to solve.

Question # 3 - I have my " Windows Live Mail " icon pinned to my taskbar. How do I get a shortcut on my desktop?

Most software makes the shortcuts for you on the desktop, some will prompt you whether you want them on the desktop, if you have selected not to then this is the method you use

Go to the program in question you want as a shortcut in the Windows orb, no longer "Start"/All Programs/Name of Application maker (e.g. Adobe)/Name of Application (e.g. Adobe Photoshop CS5) Right Click CS5 and go up to "Send to" when that menu opens, select Send to Desktop (shortcut) voila easy, isn't it?

Thanks for the try but the only desktop icons that are in there are the ones I have managed to get on my desktop already.

I'll have a look later see if I can find out where they are. I'm posting from a... *shudder* mac right now...

Tuffy you are bloating my thread with answers that are not dealing with my issues. I know how to make a shortcut. How do you think I've got a bunch on my desktop already?

If you know how to make a shortcut, it shouldn't be too difficult to make a folder a shortcut on your desktop then

Right click on any folder you want and select SEND TO click Desktop and it will create a shortcut to that folder on your desktop.

And Guyzerr, since you have accused me of bloating up your thread, I will no longer be giving you tips if that is your attitude

Poop I know that. The problem is for example... where the hell is the folder for Windows Live Mail? I've hunted all over the place and can't find it.

Second thing... That doesn't solve any of my issues that I posted about in my OP. I used to have a neat app for taking snaps of stuff but it doesn't work with W7. I wish it did. Then I could post a shot of exactly what I'm talking about.

To get a shortcut to your drives etc on the desktop
open computer...then go up to the little icon in the address bar and drag it to the desktop

If you are having trouble finding the application file to make the short cuts with
live mail yahoo etc
open task mgr go to the processes
right click on the process and select go to file location..you know what to do from there right

It looks like you are also missing my point.

I've been able to get my little snap app going so I'm posting two shots. I'll call 'em # 1 & # 2 for simplicity sake.

Pic # 1 has a circle around a specific shortcut. Pic # 2 has a line drawn across it. My goal is.... when I double click on the shortcut in # 1 I want only to see what's below the line in # 2 . I don't want to see anything above the line. In the " older " versions of Windows it was very easy to get those results. In this stinkin' version I haven't found a way yet.

I had the same problem any folders I tried to pin opened the libraries
Would making a shortcut to your actual user name folder help?{to the desktop}
the libraries dont show then.

How "deep are you wanting to go"
