I'm more concerned with the blatant racism at work here than the commentary on guns. It's like they're not even trying anymore.

Did I learn anything from this commercial? Fuck yeah I did, I learned never to go to dinner at a black home.

Edit: As for gun banning. The only way a gun ban will work is if we change society and ban guns from existence.

I hate the top picture so so so much. I'm a gun owner, and I oppose the banning of guns. Yet this picture is just pure knee-jerk extreme shit. You can't possibly compare Hitler to say, any American politician that wants to pass fire arms legislation.

That was the topic of this thread, at least what it went into. I have a lot of interests, but it's hard to bring to the fore when crazy-talk is so prevalent. I feel like an atheist on a Christianity board, only in this case EVERY board is a Christianity board. Excepting FDR and Anti-state and a couple places like that, which would probably be a more productive place to spend my time.
Also I am by choice a philosopher and greatly interested in economics and history. This may surprise you, but people tend to talk about their interests.

Money was and continues to be stolen from me. Furthermore, what happens to stolen property after it is stolen is far less important than that it not be stolen in the first place. The government certainly has no right to any of it, better someone innocent receive it than the extortionist thugs.

the ad: Graceabounds summed it up perfectly. The commercial is stupid, quietly racist, and plays on nothing more than shock value. BTW, I support gun control completely.

Bipolar Betty: fucking stupid comment. You think white people kill their kids more than black people do? Even if this is true (Maybe you have statistics? Or I guess you just 'think' it), it's mindblowingly irrelevant.

Skyblue: complete overreaction (to HisHoliness' joke, which was a fair reaction to the moronic comment above).

Quietly racist, yes, but the black community (both in US and UK) has a tendency to not report crimes. When police investigate, blacks are less likely to give information. This is somewhat understandable, but the black community was the target of the ad, IMO. That, of course is just a guess.

I would imagine that the ad has a black family in it because more black kids get killed in gang related shootings, particularly in London, so it's clearly aimed at them!! Watch it again and pay attention to the dialogue!!!!!

I don't purport to be Carthage, but the disarmament of the population is a pretty ominous step in the direction of State power, since now we are fully incapable of fighting back.

Taxation is money they take from me without my consent, money which I attained through voluntary, peaceful exchange. If I do not pay my taxes they will fine me and eventually arrest me, if I resist being kidnapped for refusal to do that they will kill me.
What is robbery if not that?

Humans need society, society needs government, and taxes are a crucial part of government, whether you like it or not. Hospitals, schools, unemployment... this is the sort of stuff taxes go towards. What do you want exactly, a country where it's every person for themselves? Such a society could not exist, and who would want it to?

I a pretty certain that you are fundamentally mistaken that society requires government, you ought to read Franz Oppenheimer's 'The State' where he pretty well shows they are in fact antithetical.
Furthermore, the utilitarian argument is only seconarily interesting to me. Attacking and robbing people is evil, and no matter how bad it is for you not to rob somebody doesn't make it right.
