NRA Criticizes Obama For Stance On Armed Guards In Shcool

A video released by the National Rifle Association on Tuesday sharply criticizes President Obama for his skepticism about placing armed guards in schools, calling the president an "elitist hypocrite" for allowing the Secret Service to protect his daughters.
"Are the president's kids more important than yours?" the ad asks. "Then why is he skeptical about putting armed security in our schools when his kids are protected by armed guards at their school?"
The ad continues: "Mr. Obama demands the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, but he is just another elitist hypocrite when it comes to a fair share of security."
The video, part of the NRA's new "Stand and Fight" campaign, comes in response to comments Obama made on NBC's "Meet the Press" last month.

Sure, more guns is the solution and Obama is elitist. What U.S. President is not? lol.

They sound reasonable to me. Any counters about why these ideas are bad or not reasonable?

Obama Signs 23 Executive Actions Regarding Guns

The announcement is over, and Obama is signing the 23 executive actions. These actions are in addition to laws that Obama wants Congress to pass. Here, according to the White House, are the 23 executive actions that he and his administration will do:

1. "Issue a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system."

2. "Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system."

3. "Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system."

4. "Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks."

5. "Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun."

6. "Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers."

7. "Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign."

8. "Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission)."

9. "Issue a presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations."

10. "Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement."

11. "Nominate an ATF director."

12. "Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations."

13. "Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime."

14. "Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence."

15. "Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies."

16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."

17. "Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities."

18. "Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers."

19. "Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education."

20. "Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover."

21. "Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges."

22. "Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations."

23. "Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health."

Not going to parse every one as it would be pointless

It looks more like a reminder list to me.

Waste of money which would be better spent on other things.

I noticed nothing was mentioned about video games or hollywoods blood, guns and violence culture.

Love the part where he tells himself to appoint an ATF director. That is a hoot

How do you feel about the bolded text and how does that fit into your personal freedoms view?

Based on the "money which would be better spent" statement are you implying "que sera" regarding gun violence?

IMO nothing is gained as it doesn't address the underlying problem. We have a wave of mentally unstable people out there

I am not for bans on videos, tv or movies

same as even though I don't smoke I am against smoking restrictions in private places

but there can be the bully pulpit to discourage the stuff in videos etc.

same as with discouraging smoking

So what is the solution? I'm not saying I have the answer. I just disagree with some people's premise that there is nothing that can be done and we just have to accept movie theater and school rooms being shot up in the name of gun ownership.

the largest school massacre in US history was with a bomb and not guns about 90 years ago in a tiny city in mid Michigan

you can remove the guns but people that are nuts will find a way

another factor is how these incidents are handled by the media. the media loves a big epic story. they would accomplish much more if they paid as much attention to the individual murders. the only time that happens though is when an innocent child gets killed. the daily murders just barely if at all get any mention.

I don't know the answer, but we have to modify our value system.

Nothing he proposed yesterday except veiled mental health changes will stop the nuts from shooting. Tim Mcveigh used fertilizer and killed 10X the number of people, many of them daycare kids. Nuts and criminals will always find a way. Declaring my weapons as illegal will not change change the fact that they have never killed any humans. I will not be defenseless against intruders or a government run wild. A return to moral values in our culture would go a long way to solving the problem. End the over sensationalized media coverage of the nuts would also help.

1. "Issue a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system."
Far too broad, ambiguous, and open to abuse.

2. "Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system."
WTF?? Who gets to define "unnecessary"?

3. "Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system."
What "incentives"? This probably means withhold federal funding for something (maybe related, maybe not) unless they comply. This is one of the most disgusting abuses of the tax system that I can imagine, and it's accepted as a normal way of doing business.

4. "Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks."
Innocuous at first glance, until you realize that they are changing the definition of "dangerous".

5. "Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun."
This violates property rights and the presumption of innocence. You don't check to see if someone deserves their property. It's their property.

6. "Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers."
This is good. Adds guidance to standing law.

7. "Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign."
Fine.

8. "Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission)."
Fine.

9. "Issue a presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations."
That's not done already? Is this a ruse to warehouse these guns and never return them, claiming that we just don't have time/money to do all the traces? Seems suspect to me.

10. "Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement."
This is a good use of federal government.

11. "Nominate an ATF director."
What a wonderful idea. ............................

12. "Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations."
This should be a state/local responsibility for anyone except federal employees.

13. "Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime."
Gee, I wonder if those enforcement efforts include preventing guns & criminals from crossing the Mexican border. Another ambiguous order.

14. "Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence."
This should be useful if they can keep it scientific. Any bets on whether TV, movies, & video games will be included in this research?

15. "Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies."
Okay.

16. "Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes."
Huh?? What's the hidden message here, because there's certainly no plain one.

17. "Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities."
Useless, pointless, and redundant. Only serves as fear mongering. Didn't they blame the "other side" of that?

18. "Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers."
I disagree with federal money being spent on education, since the Constitution clearly puts it under the states or the people, but there's nothing illegal about it.

19. "Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education."
More fear mongering.

20. "Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover."
Well within his scope. Fine

21. "Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges."
Not sure what this has to do with guns. No comment.

22. "Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations."
Commit to finalizing regulations dealing with commitment. Punny. :D

23. "Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health."
Translation: Propaganda campaign. I'd be shocked if this didn't quickly become fear mongering, as well.

No we don't. We have over 200 million guns, a minuscule fraction of those used in crime, an even smaller number used in mass killings. We have over 300 million people, a minuscule fraction of them mentally unstable, only a handful involved in mass killings.

This is not a federal problem.
