Marriage: I used to say that "Government must protect religion, even if it is not to be part of it." But now I've changed my mind. I still do not believe that Gays are born that way, I believe that it is unnatural and very slightly immoral. But I now do not think that the government has the right to force gays not to marry. Government has only the right to protect, and social issues like this aren't the government's business.

It is the governments business to be sure everyone has equal rights. Your moral issues with it have absolutely nothing to do with this. If you want to hate it, fine. whatever. but you don't get the right to take away peoples rights. equal marriage for all, regardless of sex or race.

Who here is religious and thinks gay marriage is fine?
Better yet, who here is religious and thinks gay marriage is wonderful and something to be cherished (just like "normal" marriage)?

I'm by no means overtly religious, matter of fact hardly religious at all.

But although I have nothing against two people of the same sex doing their thing if that's what rocks their boat, there's something kind of strange about them being married as we know it....and especially if kids are involved. JMO.

Not in all cases. Some do get into it for vice and/or something that may have affected them at some point in time (mainly sexual exploitation, abuse and the like). Quite possible the larger majority falls into this latter bracket. And then again some are just bi-curious and labeled homosexual.

Without all doubt, gays should be treated with the same rights as straight people. Just like black is treated just as well as white, disabled as not, gay people shouldn't be excluded from the peoples' rights for being different. Personally, I don't care if it was a choice or what they were born with, it's still what they claim to be. Does anybody have a right to judge that? No. As for the Catholics that are against them getting married, I respect your decision. I have my opinion, you have yours (not saying all of them believe this, but the truth is that some do), so I agree equivalent trade is in order. But just like you think marriage between homosexuals is wrong, I believe that you resorting to malevolent protest is wrong. It's not what God would have done and is absolutely NOT what his son died for. Given any of you are Catholic/Christian and beating innocent people down in the ways I just explained, you are no pure child of Him in my eyes, nor a proper follower of Him. Just someone that thinks religion is all a mindless cult. Again, this is just directed at the people that will give into violence to rid of gays and lesbians, not those who simply disagree with it. Please forgive me if I sound biased, as I am a lesbian myself. But really, I've supported gay marriage since God-knows-when, but I'll tell you, well before I figured out my sexuality.

It's gonna be on the ballot in Fl this year. An Amendment to ban gay marriage, civil unions, and to not recognize gay marriages or civil unions from other states. I'm voting against it, simply because I don't care what they do. It has no impact on my life whatsoever.

I agree with dt3 on the fact it has no impact on our lives if they choose to be happy.

However, I am against the idea of an adoption of a homosexual couple. Im sure a lot of people will disagree and argue with me on the idea, but homosexuality really isnt ideal in society or nature. If someone grows up to be gay, from it being in his/her brain or by choice, then its fine. However, there shouldnt be as much influence as having two homosexuals raising a child. I also do not think its AS healthy to grow up with two "dads" or two "moms". It also will create social strains for the child growing up in school, with friends, at parties.

Sorry for bringing yet another topic from the dead, but I just wanted to give my opinion on this.

I firmly believe that God defined marriage, and humans should not attempt to redefine it as anything other than a lifelong commitment between one man and one woman.

However, I have no problems with gay/lesbian couples having the same civil rights as a straight married couple.

I say gay couples should be allowed to wed and be happy but to a point...I do not....repeat do not think that a gay couple should be allowed to adopt.....for this reason....a child should have the same opportunities as everyone else did...with a mom and dad not a dad and dad or mom and mom....so they have the option to do whatever they like and are not subject to the "gay" lifestyle. Again being happily married is okay you can do what you want with your life and your partner the same but when it comes to kids I so NO!
