What are your views on gambling? Been in the news a lot over here due to them trying to open up super casinos. Personally I think like most things, it's ok if you're not hurting anyone but your self and don't take it to extremes. My personal way of doing it is to never bet more than you can comfortably afford to loose. The extend of my gambling is playing the national lottery once a week (£1), putting a tenner on a big horse race, the Grand national or the Derby and an odd night at the dogs. Down the dogs I'll put a pound on each race, thats about £10 - 15 for the night and I just view that as expense for the night out, if I win anything back, that's a bonus. Having money on a dog or horse race gives it that excitement when take away the gambling and you're left with a pretty boring sport.

I think gambling should be legal everywhere. It's your money. :dunno

I think it's ridiculous that the government will run a lottery with a 1:24,000,000 chance of winning, but won't let me play poker.

There's a much higher risk to lose your money at gambling, imo.

Depends how you play and how you view it. I'll go to a football match and pay £30 - 40 for it. The money is gone and I won't get it back at the end. I'll spend £10 - 15 at the dogs, there is a good chance I'll get at least some of that back. Last time I went I only ended up a couple of quid down. Most times I'll get a couple of winners.

I'm fine with small bets and stuff, I'm talking more about coin machines and the like.

This is where you need to get a balance. As I've said, I don't bet more than I can afford to loose. Even so, some people have systems ect that work on slot machines ect. I have a friend who I've never seen come away from a slot machine down.

I don't like gambling in casinos. I was in one two days ago and I lost a lot of money.

It is a lot better to bet with friends. It can be a lot more interesting.

How could it be it is illegal in your country? There is no lotteries, no gambling machines in shops etc.? How can they stop internet gambling?

Nah it's not illegal, we have lotteries, slot machines in pubs, horse and dog racing and betting shops. We've just never had big casinos like you lot do, like in Vegas. You get casinos around but they are seedy, illegal, underground places controlled by gangsters. There are also strict laws banning gambling in pubs for anything more than coppers.

It's fine for the folks who have the $ but there are so many poor people who gamble (especially on the lottery) who really can't afford it.

I don't think that people who are receiving public aid should be allowed to gamble that $ away. Don't know how that could be enforced tho.

Orrr buying designer clothing, shoes, etc. And at the same time having no food in the house for the kiddies. It's a huge problem.

Anyway, gambling is a fun, occasional thing. And no running to the money machine for more and more cash!

I have to say that I don't gamble on cards or slots, but I will gamble on something that I kind of have control over myself. I have placed bets on bull rides and bronc rides. Not that I actually have any control over them, but my odds are somewhat better as if I lose it is due to my own mistake.

I do gamble on sports. Even though I don't have any control over that either I just do it for the fun.

Technically, gambling is anything you do that could have a positive or negative outcome.

So basically everyone here who was born and is still alive is a non-stop gambling addict.
