can we leave out the fat people faux pas??? we get it, fat people look bad in everything they wear, whether its shorts that stick up their asses, or jeans that sit too low, or when their tummy hangs out. I guess it's hard to understand unless you've BEEN very fat before (yes I was a size 22 a year ago) but NOTHING fits right...NOTHING.

i dont think it matters whether they are talking about me or not, it shouldn't matter if i was in the exact size category of the women you guys are talking about...doesn't mean I still can't relate...Yeah, I agree certain people shouldn't be seen in certain types of clothes, but it just seems so cruel to sit and pick apart someone's fashion sense because they are obese...it's pretty hard to find clothes period when you are that size.

and maybe i wasn't THAT big, but I felt THAT BIG...and for everyone who says I wasn't...there are twice as many people who will say that I was HUGE. It's all about perception..

well then maybe we should close this thread? B/c many people can take offense to it whether it be woman that are over-weight. People that can't afford nice clothes. People that dress the way they do b/c of the way they were brought up and don't know any different. And we also, well at least I know I was putting people into racial catagories b/c of the way they dress. And just b/c someone who is overweight and can't find clothes that may fit them or think look good...i felt the same way when I was underweight, and it seemed almost impossible for me to gain weight. Do you know how horrible I looked and how bad I felt about myself that I couldn't gain weight. Pants were falling off my ass, belts were too big and skirts and tanks looked horrible on me b/c of my arms and chicken legs. I felt I went into the fashion faux pas.

Not everyone has a perfect body and can wear cute clothes from wherever they want...not everything fits right...not everyone can afford to shop at the Gap...people aren't how they look or how they dress. With amount of stress people try to put on the fact that they DON'T buy into media-fed stereotypes, they sure do fall easily into the habbit of categorizing people by how they look. I'm not saying this to put any of you guys down for saying what you have said, we are all guilty of it sometimes, but it just hits a little close to home for me because I have at some point in my life fit into almost all of these faux pas...and not by choice!!!

That was me, too!

**Except for the skirts! ;)

I still can't find a belt that fits me right. I've grown into fittable pants now, but I had a small waist and long, long legs until 10 years ago or so, but now I'm a "square": 34 x 34. :D

The thread was not posted for the purpose of offending or personalising fashion faux pas...everyone, regardless of size, body shape or number of appendages falls victim to fashion faux pas.

The topic of this thread was meant as generalisation only.

Should it be closed? No. It is not an offensive topic, and shouldn't be taken as such.

Clare, I can assure you neither my sister or I posted anything in this thread with the express purpose of causing you offense..or anyone. My sister is new to OTz, but over time you will see that she is not a mean-spirited person, and in my time on OTz I have never ever said a mean word to anyone.

I'm not saying you or her are mean!!! I understand she is new and I don't know her, and I wasn't taking offense by either of you personally, but just by the way some of the things were said, and it wasn't only her, there were a few people who can't seem to keep away from the FAT topic. I would say a majority of the women here are about a size 12 to a size 20, and most of us probably have some body hang-ups. I don't necessarily think the thread should be closed but just know when you say things on an open forum about the way people dress themselves or look physically that there could just be someone fitting that description posting on here and they might get their feelings hurt.

I'm glad to know that you realised that Mackenzie, and I were meaning to hurt your feelings...we're not like that.

Mackenzie works in the fashion industry, and she posted from her knowledge base of what suits what type of body shape (or not)...not an assault on peoples physical appearances (which she didn't)....it was what it was, fashion faux pas. Also, Mackenzie had already passed comment to me how gorgeous you were, and how envious she is of the way you look in your wedding gown.

It has become obvious that the US has different clothing sizing that Oz...
