My nickel's worth is done. Apparently, the upper powers don't care what the majority of the members think about this ridiculous infraction/warning system. I'd say to make a poll out of it, but knowing that ya'll can see who voted what would make people not vote for fear of retribution. Nah'mean?

There are far better and more civilized ways to handle "problems". The infracted/warned individual doesn't even get their day in court. And don't give me the skewed version of the infamous mod room. With as much gossip and trash-talking that occurs on the forum and in PM, we all have "heard" that it's not all nicey-nice in there when ya'll gossip. High school. I hope ya'll enjoy it. Apparently Chris has had it, since he's leaving. Even the Super Mod has said enough is enough.
So bringing this topic back on topic...good luck Chris and I hope your shoulder heals up.

P.S. I am now being repped for these opinions. Listen to the people.

I can honestly say that we do no such thing as trash talk people or gossip in the mods room. The mods room is there to work out problems without them being brought to the boards. We dont go there and have a fiesta with gossiping, I can promise you that.

How can you call it ridiculous when some VERY long term members have become so affected that they leave. If I left, it'd be no big deal, I'm a drop in the member bucket. But Veronica...you have TWO very established members that are both not doing well to the point of leaving. I didn't say to do away with the system. I said to put it ONLY in the hands of the Admin. Allowing mods to have that much authority is causing a lot of hurt feelings. Look at it and you'll see. I know you are in law enforcement. And maybe the idea of making "deputies" do the law enforcement seems like the right thing. But it is not working. It is causing so much heartache among the members who truly love this forum you sponsor. Take the responsibility of the law enforcement upon yourself and Tim, where it belongs.
So where would this forum have been if the day OT came to invade. Mods didnt have power to Ban or infract? Would you have rather read through pages of all the shit they posted? Neither V nor Tim were on when it started. It was me and Chris handling it to begin with. We are here to help v and Tim. all the mods are. We try our best to help keep this the place we love.

We dont go in the mod room and as you put it "decide whos ego to bash" everyday.

When people belong to a forum for so long. They tend to get caught up in it. Feelings (either good or bad) do get tangled up sometimes. Though as mods we try to keep an unbiased opinion. Not always possible but thats why the mod room is there. To discuss what infractions are given. And if need be reversed.

You say that we are grown adults here and do not need hand slaps? Thats crazy. infractions and watchful mods/admins are necessary to keep this place running as good as it does.

On The Superficial forums, someone was given access to the mod forums, (through a mistake of the admin, since she was supposed to be banned). She ended up saving all the topics in the mod's forum and sending them to many members of the site.

It was beyond hilarious to see all the mods and the admin eat their words on what they said in those forums.

I understand, and I to say that my post was not implying that anyone here does this. It was just an example of a case where people did. ;)

This whole infraction/warning system is not even effective anymore. It appears to be given randomly; it hurts people; it's not doled out equally. I'd seriously like to see the Admin do away with it altogether. In a forum of mainly adults, it's highly insulting to have to be given a hand slap and it's highly stressful to have to go to the mod room and decide who's ego to bash in today. Quite frankly, the idea of ya'll "gossiping" about the bad people is kind of juvenile and high school. I am flat out announcing that the system has to go. The Admin can certainly handle banning the spammers AND talking to those who might need a reminder of what the rules are. The mods should not have that authority. As good as the mods have been, it's still hard for everyone to remain biased. Tim and V, I know you know about a certain communication I received from a mod that was totally out of line. It all comes down to we are human and people can't put their personal feelings aside every time. Let's take the stress off your forum and do away with this ridiculous system of "punishment". It doesn't work. It's archaic. It's degrading.

You have absolutely NO idea what goes on in the mod room. You can't see it and you've never been able to see it. So I don't have any idea where you're getting that idea from.

You think the infractions are "given randomly", yet you don't even know who gets Warning/Infractions. Every Warning/Infraction is discussed at great length in the Mod Room before it's given.

How can you call it ridiculous when some VERY long term members have become so affected that they leave. If I left, it'd be no big deal, I'm a drop in the member bucket. The Mods are here because Tim/V can't be online 24 hours a day. In fact, just like all the rest of us, they sometimes aren't here for a day or two. Action has to be able to be taken while they're away.

Polls can be set to Private, and then even Admin can't see who votes for what.

Chris,
I understand to a degree what your current feelings are. I know you were there for me when I was going through a similar sentiment.

maybe less about your problems right now, start that in a new thread. and maybe more about trying to get chris to stay.

I have spoken to Peter and he said it isn't because of Chris himself, he said he is going to be leaving, but it is because he feels Chris abuses his mod status.
He is thinking things through right now.

He has seen this thread and that of other threads as 'guest' and is upset that Chris has personally attacked and name-called peter at such an extent as posted in this thread and still has mod status, when members are banned and infracted for less.

In the thread that's caused all this, he hadn't even mentioned his Aspergers.

Anyway, this is how he feels and I said I will pass on his message, so that is what I have done here.

So true. I recall being warned by someone for arguing with them, but never getting a chance to talk to the warning party.

Breath.. You are killing me right now..

YOU are the only one with a problem about the infractions! If we didnt have those- we would have to BAN everyone that acted a fool. Would you rather that.. Would you of rathered being banned for what you did? Secondly, its not up to you!

Vs, she's not trying to get on your nerves or tell you how to run your forum. Please don't take it all as her being rude or trying to singlehandedly change the way you want to do things.

youve heard? thats funny ever play the game telephone Breath??

Audra, you and I have had problems before, but we're cool now, right? You play the game telephone all the time.

I agree with you on many points, Breath. I also agree with many other's views.

I don't anyone can say that one person's actions/views on a forum are the "right" way. Everyone's "right way" view varies.

Elle agrees.

I will not do away with the infraction system. It actually helps more than you know. IM sorry that you and peter were given one, but they were both done with other mods agreements.

Sorry- Im getting alittle upset at this pettiness! This is ridiculous!
:homo:

The fact of the matter is that there needs to be some measure of control, especially in a fluent situation such as this. It wouldn't be the first time or last that people get hurt by one another by way of expression. And yes, some do take it too far and need to be checked accordingly. Free expression is no excuse for bad (to put it mildly) behavior and we need to be mindful of this.

I am in full support of the system in place as is. Additionally, Veronica and Tim are just two people. They can't be expected to be everywhere all the time. They, as everyone have other responsibilities also. It is remarkable that they find the time that they do but they also need help. That is one of the reasons I guess that they employ the use of other moderators to keep an eye out to preserve the peace as need be. In the main, the system works and when you compare it to other forums....it works and has worked marvelously. Thing is you can't please all of the people all of the time and some will get butt hurt at times. So be it. Live goes on.

It's not the case here that free expression is not allowed. It is and sometimes so much so that some abuse it. But hell. It's human. Shit happens. But if it is at times that we lose sight of expressing ourselves with some measure of respect for one another and resort to obscene name calling and the like, an example of what I have seen otherwise and on this very opening post which I will not repeat, some of which may have been edited by now but nevertheless has been said, then we must be able to accept the consequences. Personal attacks do need to be tempered. JMO.

I'm not trying to gang up on anyone or make this about me. I am simply giving an example of what has been done.

Please don't get upset, I'm not trying to bring any spiteful emotions into this on my part.
