This should help. :D

I believe Robert Heinlein is credited as saying "An armed society is a polite society, manners are good when one may have to back up his actions with his life."

Something like that. :D

Waaaaait... how in God's name do you have a CCW in the bay area? :willy_nilly:

Am not saying I wont do a thing. As I will! Just that I will *take precautions* not to stop where it's dark or heavily wooded where there's no one around to see if anything happens to me! You're a guy, it's easier for you to stop and defend yourself. The *street smart* thing to do would be to stop where there's light, more open and call the police and report it. Surely in this time nowadays with lots of crooks everywhere- I wouldn't be falling for those kinds of traps if ever it happens.

I wont' live in fear either, but I refuse to live with blinders on. I agree, in this world we live in , anything is possible and it's smart to take precautions.

Yay for spam e-mails! God, that shit is so ridiculously idiotic that I don't even know where to begin. Even if it was real, I'd sure as hell stop and check and see if there was a kid inside. I couldn't fathom doing anything else. But hey, I guess we're just supposed to live our lives in fear... that's what the government tells us anyway.

Yes. Just because it's a hoax doesn't mean it could never happen. Is there anything wrong with being cautious?

Well, you'd better not flash your lights at anyone that doesn't have their own on, don't pump gas for fear of HIV infected needles in the handle, uhm... oh, don't get change out of pay phones for the same reason as gas pumps. Uhm, don't eat onions because they're bacteria magnets, don't put decorative magnets on your refrigerator because they cause cancer, don't use free perfume samples because they'll kill you. What else? Don't use optical mice because they cause cancer as well. You can get syphilis from eating at the Olive Garden. Don't let your kids play in ball pits, because there are HIV infected needles there too. Don't use Mr. Clean magic erasers, because they contain formaldehyde. Don't get coffee at Tim Horton's because there's nicotine in it. Don't use lipstick because there's lead in it. Definitely don't re-use plastic bottles, because that will give you cancer as well.

Are you sensing a pattern here.....?

You could get into a car accident driving to the grocery store... does that mean you shouldn't drive anymore? You could possibly choke on a peanut and die. Should you not eat peanuts anymore? Something bad could happen with anything that you do... so maybe you should stay in bed all day long, maybe cover yourself with bubble wrap before leaving the house. Wait. That'd probably cause cancer as well. :24:

You're just playing into the fear game.

So, you think that we all should just ignore good sense and just party...lol. I'm also careful not to ignore a wound made by a rusty nail, does that make me paranoid? I don't run through the park at 5am anymore because a woman was raped there last year, should I also ignore that fact? I floss too because I like having my own teeth...lol...oh god, what have I become!!!!!!!!!!:24:

If you can't tell the difference between being afraid of a hoax chain e-mail and the examples that you gave, then there's not much I can do for you. Just go along your merry way and be afraid of the boogyman hiding around every corner.

I have to say, if I was a guy and not a girl, I'd likely do the same. But as a girl, I have to accept that I am at a physical disadvantage and kind of guard myself against situations where I could potentially be in danger.

Oh, hell, I might stop even as a woman.

First of all I didn't ask you to do anything for me...lol...and yes, I can tell the difference, and if you had taken the time to read the whole thread you would have known that. I'm not denying that it was a hoax, I'm not saying that we should be afraid of it and I'm definately not saying that we should live our lives in fear.....all I'm saying is that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Be it it's true or not it's besides the point, imo. I still thank Ssadie for making people aware as i myself don't know and have not heard of it. It's a good warning. Good precaution! Even if it doesn't/didn't happen-It can happen :ninja

Another street smart advise *especially for women* who are more weak and defenseless against strengths of criminally inclined men!

This is dripping with with traditional sexist stereotypes. No offense, as I'm sure you didn't mean it that way, but I'm sure there are a few women - especially on our site - who could take care of themselves.

And I think it adds a little to mass hysteria when shit like this is spread. It also stops the REAL warnings from getting any attention.

Just like the fake Amber Alert e-mails, and the fake "help me find my husband" shit on facebook....

I wont' live in fear either, but I refuse to live with blinders on. I agree, in this world we live in , anything is possible and it's smart to take precautions.

It is smart to take precautions which is why I always look stuff like this up before I pass it on.
