Don't mess with Texas' women.

My initial reaction was good for her and then I got to thinking how safe I feel in Canada with our tight gun laws and changed my mind. I think she went overboard and should have been charged.

Well, this is a toughie. I'm a big advocate for the right to bear arms and own a couple guns myself. I also am an advocate for concealed carrying. Someone comes into my home, for example, Ima unload on his ass and to hell with his feelings.

However, I do think she did go a bit overboard. That being said though, I can't say I wouldn't have shot the man either. A person that steals is a lowlife and she was, within her rights, protecting her property.

As I'm typing this, I can't remember exactly - did the article say that all 6 shots hit him or just that she fired 6 shots? I'll have to read it again, cause that also makes a difference.

ETA: Okay, I see that she did in fact (apparently) shoot him 6 times. Tad bit of overkill, but still I can't seem to muddle up the thought that she is totally in the wrong.

When I was living in Arizona I had a .357 magnum and very early in the morning or rather very late at night a guy came to our condo in a taxi and started pounding on out doorknob with a baseball bat. So I went and opened the door and told the dude that he had 10 seconds to get off my balcony and pointed the gun at him. He didn't take me seriously apparently until I got down to 1 second and fired a shot over his head. Then he ran like hell and jumped head first into the taxi passenger window. The taxi was already taking off when he heard the shot. The guy was lucky I didn't shoot him in the ass! There were no repercussions against me for protecting my property.

She killed him.....and didnt even do one day of gaol time...which tells me its OK over there to just shoot anyone willy nilly for some petty crime....:willy_nilly:

I remember one drunken night in my teens...going in through my neigbours gate instead of my own....thank fuck I dont live over there because...according to your reasoning...it'd be OK if you shot me dead....

I read lots of "intruders"being shot over there.....cept they weren't an "intruder"...they were a family member or friend.:(

Shhhhhhhhhhh...... they don't want to talk about that stuff.

The problem I have with this killer chick is her life wasn't threatened at the time she blew him away. If she would have shot him face on instead of six cowardly rounds in the back I might think a wee bit differently.

Only if you're trying to break down my front door.

We here have to use common sense as people do use our lakefront. So we generally ask questions first before shooting ;)

Huge difference in you entering through a gate and trying to break into someone's house, IMO.

Is it okay to shoot someone over some petty crime? No.

Is it okay to protect myself, my loved ones, and my property from petty thieves, would be vandals, or murderers/rapists? Yep.
