Just goes to show the world is filled with intolerant assholes. May they all someday get their own opinions served right back to them. Karma can be one mean bitch.

John if she commits suicide because she lost her job, she had a pretty low self-esteem to start with. Again, if you don't want to lay yourself open for criticism don't POST STUPIDITY ON FACEBOOK. The good thing, people's memories are very short and something else will capture the headlines soon. It's not like the girl killed anyone or led anyone else to committ suicide. With time noone will remember this and she can go on with life, hopefully wiser.
Facebook, it just got serious :24::24:

Generally speaking, as a whole, our society has become all to comfortable sharing with the world what kind of idiots we can be.

I don't need idiots to judge me:D

If she was being paid to be there, and her employment contract has clauses around bring the company into disrepute, there's grounds for disciplinary action. Since it has no bearing on her ability to do her job, I'd say that dismissal is a harsh outcome.

First world problems... LOL

I think this qualifies as a little more serious than first world problems, to be fair.

I wonder how all these people that wanted this girl fired will feel if she is so distraught she committs suicide? If she did kill herself, should the assholes that started the Facebook pages calling for her termination be prosecuted like in this case?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Tyler_Clementi

Totally different. That young man was filmed w/o his knowledge and then harassed. This girl CHOSE to put herself out there like that.
John

I think there is a difference between someone who video's someone without them knowing it and then showing it to the world as compared to people who are so pissed off they go online to voice their opinion about the actions someone took that they find disrespectful.

Oh, well, Joe beat me to it, LOL

Facebook, it just got serious :24::24:

I seem to remember you posting in the past about the pictures people post on their Facebook of their kids at the dentist and stuff like that, no???

I agree. A written reprimand, a public apology, and maybe a day or two to "think about her actions" would have sufficed IMO.

I would like to think that the company may change their mind and hire her back in the near future.

That would all depend on her value to them as an employee. If they're not willing to risk public backlash for her, either they are poor employers, or she is a poor employee. This whole fiasco should be a sideshow, not a reason to dismiss.

Does anyone here have family or loved ones buried at arlington?? I do, my father is buried there. I have visited there often, to see the historic sights, as well as visit my father's grave. For people like me who have family there i can understand the outrage of someone disrespecting what is supposed to be the peacefull resting place of our family and loved ones. I however feel that freedom was something everyone of those people fought and died for, and she was certainly exercising her freedom in that photo. Is she an idiot, why sure!! Does she deserve to lose her job, that's debatable.

Just pointing out the hypocrisy of criticizing people for being concerned w/ what others put on their Facebook.

The little brat got fired I dont see the problem here.
She couldnt have picked a worse place to act like a juvenile.
Thing is she isnt a kid.
She intentionally mocked the place.
And defied authority while doing such.
She accomplished what she set out to do and wanted the world to know about it.
The finger flipping was just to much.
The fact she made it a point to do it at the sign makes it worse.
"Silence and respect"
She said fuck you and your sign.
TBO i would have fired her had she done the same thing at the library at a "please keep quiet sign"

Let alone the location she decided to be a brat rebel.
I suspect she didnt have proper discipline as a child and has become what she is as a result.
Some firm hands placed across the ass years ago could have avoided such behavior today.

I'm sure that none of the cemetery's residents complained.

Not wishing to be flippant about it, but the whole 'reverence towards dead servicemen' thing seem little more than a marketing exercise to me. If you can't die a hero, there seems to be little merit in dying for your country.

Basically what you have there is a field full of the remains of brave and hardened service people. People who not only would defend your right to speak freely and be who you are, but have defended your rights as an American to speak freely and be who you are. People who fought hard, partied hard, and probably 'flipped the bird' themselves on occasion.

I flip the bird at those who CHOOSE to harass this girl for not being empathetic enough to understand the wider context of the sign that she is mocking.I don't approve of her behaviour, but I don't believe you should witch hunt for lack of decorum......and I think it's crass that someone thought that such a sign was necessary in the first place.

Our servicemen put their lives on the line every day to ensure the freedom that we have. That freedom includes the freedom to make errors of judgement without being disproportionately punished If we're going to allow a bunch of bullies to harass anyone they dislike out of a job for reasons that have absolutely no bearing on their ability to complete that job, then those service men and women may well have died in vain.

and I think it's crass that someone thought that such a sign was necessary in the first place.
Obviously needed due to brats like this...who even then dont respect them.
If you can't die a hero, there seems to be little merit in dying for your country.

We consider them all heros in this wonderful nation.

People who not only would defend your right to speak freely and be who you are, but have defended your rights as an American to speak freely and be who you are. People who fought hard, partied hard, and probably 'flipped the bird' themselves on occasion.

Nice,
difference between flipping the bird at your sister and this brats actions.
So you are saying they fought for us to act like brats?

If we're going to allow a bunch of bullies to harass anyone they dislike out of a job for reasons that have absolutely no bearing on their ability to complete that job,

Perception is everything.

If she posted it on Facebook that is really not bright. Other people have been fired over Facebook exposure. I don't know why her company fired her, but if she signed stuff that allows how her conduct reflects on the company, to be scrutinized, then especially the flipping off would be disrespectful. The shouting at the graves might have slipped past getting fired, but not the added screw you remark.
