I do. Not sure if I'm into alien body snatching or anything - but life has to exist elsewhere. Doubtful it does anywhere else in our solar system but I'm sure we'll find it someday.

hell yes we couldn't be the only ones

Too many people are assuming that intelligent life beyond would communicate in a way as we do, and would be somewhat like us. What if they're more like whales or insects? Do you take into consideration that what worked for us might not be the same things needed for them to have life?

The recipe for life here is unique to this planet. Other places have their own recipes. Other life might not be similar to our own. Even if it is, look how long it took for us to evolve to this point...and we still have so much further to go. It will take a very long time for any of us in the universe to be able to find a common ground, so to speak, on which we can form a relationship.

Firstly I don't get the whole Panspermia thing - life had to start out somewhere, so what's wrong with it starting here. Besides when you look at DNA, it's obvious that all creatures on this planet are related.

Second we did not evolve from apes, monkeys or gorillas, but we did all evolve from the same creatures (or branch of the evolutionary tree) a long time ago - many millions of years.

Third - Asking how come there are still monkeys here is silly. Many species evolved from species that are still here. Ants & Bees evolved from wasps - wasps still exist. It's all about a species moving into a new environment & if it manages to survive then that species will now live in the old & the new environment - each one changing as needed.

Fourth, I'm sure there is life out there, I'm just not convinced it is intelligent - nor does it need to be. There has been life on the earth for billions of years & intelligent life - us - has been here for less than a million years.

(I'm not sure if this has been said (i didnt bother reading everything everyone said...) but here goes anyways...)

If you could travel faster than the speed of light, you would be traveling back in time.

If you think about it, it makes sense, but i'm not exactly sure about the math involved in that...

but, i saw that on tv once in a documentary thingy... so... technically time travel is possible...

also, i belive that if there is intelligent life in one tiny insignifigant planet, there MUST be some elsewhere but the universe is so insanely massive that we will probably never see it, unless we made a huge spacecraft that could hold an entire civilisation and support them for the time it took to find more life...

well, thats my 2 and a halve cents...

Yeah...but by then, the humans would be so fucking inbred that it would be scary to meet up with them...

And if you are travelling back in time...would that change you inside the vessel, as well, or would it merely go on with you as you are? In theory, it almost seems plausible that you would start to go back in time, and if you're 40, by the time you get that far back, you are reduced to nothing...therefore, never truly going back in time to show the human race what there is to see... Does that make sense? I haven't eaten in days...have a fever...and I just saw myself in the mirror, and I look half dead...

well, if you consider that we procreate, and the world's population grows, then if you go back in time, you will figure out that humans appeared from either a set of humans, or we have already been here.

so, since, according to the trend of the population growth, the latter seems less of an option, ergo, the former explanation shows that we are all inbred anyways.

According to Einstein, if you travel at the speed of light, the time will slow down for you, while it remains the same for everyone else. If anything you will travel forward in time.

If you travelled at the speed of light for a year, you would have only aged a year, but when you get back to Earth everyone you knew would be either much older or dead, because time slowed down for you.

lol Lemon

I guess it'll all be fine as long as we don't send too many people from Louisiana and Mississippi...

I'm gonna go shower now...not because I had sex (see the underground), but because I have 30 minutes before the man signs on while between classes, and I just wanna zone out and remember how happy I am that I can no longer create life. Well, I can...but I can't support it...

Off I go!

no. it takes a lot to get at that speed. so you will be either a) much older or b) dead.

So if they could, in theory, break all the rules and go the speed of light...would they not need some sort of barrier within the vessel to maintain some form of normal gravitational force, so the crew would not be splattered against the back wall?

So are you saying that since we would gradually reach such speeds, our bodies would simply adapt?

Franklyn said that according to Einstein, our bodies would disintegrate should we reach such speeds...or even come close to them.

I'm not saying he's right. I'm merely throwing in his 2 cents in his absence.

i can't get into these conversations anymore. back in my teenage years, while under the influence of a certain liquid(also comes on little paper tabs), we had this same conversation. i ended up losing my mind and freaking myself out on the subject of "how big is the universe". it was like my mind couldn't register something that big. lets just say, it was a bad trip. :tard its freaking me just thinking about it now...

i do believe there is some other kind of life out there.

lol wht... :cool

sim. no. we would not adapt. we would just simply go at the speed propelled by the engines of the ship we are contained in. that is if the ship's structure can handle such forces. but if we were to go simply in 100 mph increments up to the speed of light, we would never get to the speed of light, because we would die by then, by some outside event that we cannot control, such as an asteroid or something.

the day after i read this post, a show came on WHRO about life in the universe. it was very interesting and they had alot of good ideas of who, what, when, where, why, and how... one was to try and turn mars into an earth like atmosphere. all the ideas were realalistic.. i'll see if i can find a link about it...
