its not naive, what if the odds of intelligent life really are a zillion to one (i know that sounds silly but you know what i mean). it wouldnt be crazy to think we just 'got lucky'.
and AB, if life was out there, but actually was a 'trillion' light years away, then unless we developed a way to go faster than light, it may as well not be there since wed never get therein the time of the human race (as we know it)'s existence. chances are our sun would explode and go nova first....

Thats my point, it would be naive to think there is no other life forms "out there" We may never know for certain it does exists, but we would be foolish to say it doesn't considering the vastness of the universe.

that idea is sort of farfetched, but not impossible theoretically. but alas, i do think life exists elsewhere in some form, but who knows when and if we would be able to know for sure

Ok, you may be right. But look at it this way. The closest major Galaxy to us (Andromeda) is 2.4 million light years away. If some being was there looking through a big ass telescope at Earth, he might be seeing cavemen right now. I don't know what was happening 2.4 million years ago here, but there definitely wouldn't be any signs of intelligent, advanced life. So, maybe 2.4 million years from now, they would be able to see us. But even that picture would be 2.4 million years old.
Yes, I think there may be other life. But I don't think we will ever know. The immensely low probability of it existing, combined with the difficulties of us seeing it and knowing, I just don't think it will ever happen.

there is something wrong with that - we dont really know how fast light goes. ( sure you can trust the scientists ) but have they travelled at that great of a speed ( as they define the speed to be ) to make sure it goes that fast? i doubt it. :dunno
lemon said:well, most say that the speed of light is constant, right? well, when you get to speed of light threshold, you would be measuring the speed of light at the speed of light, which is an over-recursive function. :dunno
i like talking bullshit
