If this is about being called a chicken hawk because of a no vote.......let me state right now, John asked me many months ago if I served and I replied upfront I hadn't and while we argue back and forth often, that fact has never come up between us again.

I did not serve and, although I've thought about it before, I think I'd suck at it. I couldn't deal w/ a DI yelling in my face...I'd cry. My dad is a former Marine (once a Marine, always a Marine, I know) and I have all the respect in the world for the men and women who DO serve. That being said, I don't fault anybody for not serving.

You are missing the point.
A chicken hawk is a draft dodger or uses another means to avoid the service.
Since John doesn't know whether I served or not...there is no way to accurately label someone a chicken hawk.
To further if I didnt serve he still would not know the reasons for such....one leg ..one eye etc.
Or rejection due to pot and alcohol related offenses...people get turned down all the time.
Or even if the draft existed in my era.
