UPDATE

KATV Channel 7 - Pair Pleads No Contest in Hot Springs Skateboarding Case

Hot Springs (AP) - Two skateboarders who were videotaped in a scuffle with a police officer in downtown Hot Springs have pleaded no contest to misdemeanor charges. Neither was sentenced to jail time.

Nineteen-year-old Skylar R. Nalls pleaded no contest Wednesday to violating a city skateboarding ordinance and to misdemeanor charges of fleeing and obstructing government operations.

Police say Nalls attempted to interfere with an officer arrested other youths. He was sentenced to 30 days community service and $85 in fines, plus court costs.

Twenty-one-year-old Matthew Jon McCormack of Hot Springs pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of third-degree battery for allegedly striking Hot Springs Community Services officer Kenneth Billingsley.

Billingsley was assisting police officer Joey Williams, who was arresting McCormack. McCormack was fined $210, plus costs, and ordered him to perform 30 days of community service.

A video shot by skateboarders of the June 21st disturbance was posted on YouTube and appeared to show Williams choking one skateboarder and put two others into a headlock. An internal police investigation concluded Williams used the proper amount of force when making his arrests.

Police said they arrested four juveniles involved in the incident.

Skateboarding is banned in most of downtown Hot Springs, as is roller skating, inline skating and bicycle riding on sidewalks.

Fuck the Police!

Whoa dude!:eek

The police was doing his job. It is ILLEGAL to skateboard, rollerblade, etc on the sidewalks here, especially where they were doing it. The kids are the onew who got way out of hand.
And those 2 kids got fined in court just last week for it too. This ordeal went to a higher court and that policeman had to take time off work until he was found innocent on his part

I agree that the cop used excessive force but you dont know how you would react in his situation. Its the same with videos you see of troops beating the shit out of unarmed Iraqis. What you dont see is Iraqis shooting at the troops with RPGs, 15 minutes before. I know this situation is a bit different but everyone has their breaking point and can snap!

I just went to my myspace page and noticed that I had a friends request and low and behold, check out what it is MySpace.com - United Aid U.S.A Supports Hot Springs 6! - 19 - Male - Hot Springs, Arkansas - www.myspace.com/unitedaid
Its not the page itself that bothers me, hell I could really care less, its the fact that on the far left hand side about halfway down in blue, there are some City of Hot Springs employees emails listed (that I know these people did not give permission) and one of those emails listed is my MOMS!!:mad She is going to be pissed.....highly pissed! She works for the City of Hot Springs but in Public Works, which has nothing to do with this at all whatsoever. How dare this site just post peoples personal work emails for thousands of people to have access to? I DID NOT accept this friend request and they are getting a message from me to about posting peoples personal shit like that w/o their permission.

Punk kids that can't seem to read the city ordinances posted, disrespect for laws posted as they disobey them, disrespect for officers of the law, and they apparently think it is all a big joke. I don't blame it on the kids though, I blame it on the parents.

The cops did their job. The kid's disrespect and resistance added a heightened level of awareness to the situation that had to be dealt with and to the kid's arrogant surprise --- it was.

The kids were wrong. The cop was doing his job.

yup. When I was a kid I was an arrogant asshole and I paid for it. When I was in sixth grade I got tossed around by an adult....still didnt learn my lesson got a bad ass whoopin from a cop a couple years later and got arrested at the same time, but I deserved it. and it made me a better person. you dont always need an ass whoopin but that cop had to go home that night without a stab wound from some asshole kid like me.

I think the force might of been a bit debatable but those punk kids deserve it. You can see it in their attitude that they have no respect. One thing is just skating and an asshole cop getting in the way and another is being on private property and disrespecting rules and laws as well as skating irresponsibly where they or someone else may get hurt. They even tried to run from the cop thats balls
