Ya like it's been mentioned before the virus/adware/spyware...whatever you have on your comp isn't from the video card. You may not have downloaded anything, but you obviously went to a site that caused the issues. I know you aren't dumb, but this can happen to anyone and it's what did happen to you.

I would make sure your brother installed the newest drivers for this video card. Also if you put the old one back in make sure to install those drivers too.

Also yes you do need to adjust the resolution, however if your not seeing icons and such it's leading me to believe the drivers weren't isntalled because they would have automatically adjusted the resolution to a decent one to start with for you to adjust later.

Also there was a windows update about a month or two ago that was for video and it may be what's causing issues with the new video card as well. I had to totally go remove the update and never install it because of issues I'd been having.

And if you cant get to any websites through IE have someone download AVG onto a disk and then you can install it onto your computer and install it that way.

If it's a CRT monitor the resolution might not have been adjusted properly, I've had that happen many times. Downloading AVG on another computer and saving to a disk is a good idea, I can't believe I didn't think of that last night.

You can put the wrong res, but it won't hurt anything. If you have a CRT it might not show everything if the res is too high and if you have an LCD it'll just look funky.
