For some reason I hit some key or something that turns it to french and the only way to fix it is to close and reopen whatever I am using..

I can imagine.. The French settings keep stealing my ? and ' and adding accents to my e's....

There is an easier way to fix it. Just hit <Ctrl><Shift> together until your keyboard is back to normal. At least that's what works on my laptop.
