So, John, what you are essentially saying is the same thing John Stuart Mill said Conservatives are not necessarily stupid, but most stupid people are conservatives.

By the end of the 19th century the American South stood alone in the world as the most backward and divided working-class in the world. Whereas workers in the rest of the developing world were directing their attention "up" against exploitation by the wealthy, be they capitalists, the remnants of royalty, or foreign imperialists, the workers and farmers in the American South were directing their efforts "down", seeking to retain their class position above the ex-slaves. Instead of fighting for their own rights as workers, white males in the South were fighting to continue to deprive the lower class of their rights.

Isn't that ironic.

Well there is also the class of cultures between North and South

Agrarianism VS Cosmopolitanism

WTF is Cosmopolitanism?

While the south had slavery, the north had unsafe factories, extremely low pay and much squalor in the cities for many working class people. The north was not a whole lot better than the south overall until the labor movement forced owners to change. Then, after a while they began moving those factories and mills to the more ignorant, non-union southern states.

Sad but true. It's extremely unintelligent for working class folk to vote Republican or consider themselves conservative. They are too ignorant to understand the "conservatism" means conserving their misery, low wages and unaffordable health care.

that includes millions and millions of leftists

The really stupid ones left and joined the Republican party and call themselves conservatives. Peter Parka said you were once liberal. Is that true?

and most people have some sort of prejudice no matter how badly they deny it

Fucking A. I'm totally prejudiced toward folks who earn wages or run a true small business that think they are going to benefit themselves by voting against the best interests of their own families.

whats the point

The point is that it is moronic to vote for Republicans you know are going to represent the top 1% and fuck you and your family over. Pretty simple.

I called three of the dumbest guys I know just because of this thread.

2 vote democrat and 1 votes republican.

Perhaps they are not democrats because they are dumb, but rather you think they are dumb because they are democrats. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking people who don't agree with you are dumb.

I don't think Republicans are dumb either. The religious right does seem to attract some ignorant people. But ignorant and dumb are separate things. Anyway, most Republicans are not part of the religious right.

1. One guy thought that the fax machine "teleported" the paper to the sending fax machine
2. One guy unknowingly put unleaded fuel in a diesel truck for a VERY expensive bill (and yes, he was warned prior)
3. One guy went out and bought a compact two wheel drive regular cab truck for his family that included a baby (and he was looking at a hatchback that could seat 4 people but decided on the "two" person truck instead because it looked "cool")

This is but one example for each.

I honestly believe "there but for the grace of God go I", but I was genuinely curious and had to have a rating system of some sort.

One man who I've become acquaintances with whom I consider very intelligent is a democrat, but he wasn't included in this informal survey.

Personally, I don't believe intelligence has anything to do with what political party you are affiliated with. I know for myself, I started voting republican because that's what my parents did, but as I got older, I made my own choices.

I'm old enough now that I don't really care for either parties, and ironically enough, my father happens to agree me.

That said, per the OP in many another threads, it's not the political party that runs the government, but big business, and I happen to agree with him. If that is truly the case, what does it really matter what party you vote?

Interestingly enough, if I'm on some "liberal" forum, I could be considered a staunch gun supporting conservative, but on some "conservative gun forums" I've been labeled a "left wing liberal".

Seems to me that no one ever wants to meet in the middle and actually agree on something to accomplish anything.

Dear lord do you people know how to use google?

True. On here I'm called a fascist by some people. In my own circles I am moderate to a certain degree.

Even though I am clearly not a moderate at all.

Depends on the perspective. For instance I do not believe that there are any real conservatives in the mainstream. To me, they are simply left winger neo-cons who lean to the right on some issues.

It would have been hard to keep a straight face. :)

He didn't even see it. It took me a while to figure out exactly what he was thinking. To ensure I wasn't off base, I informed him later that the fax paper doesn't actually "teleport" to the intending fax machine, and he thanked me for letting him know.

When I took first aid for raft guiding, we did have a girl inform us during infant CPR training (I know, not many babies go rafting, it was still mandatory though) that the way she was taught to clear an infants throat (if choking) was to grab the infant by the feet, hang the infant upside down and shake vigorously until said object came out. She was serious. I did have to leave the room for that one, and never thought of getting her number to find out if she was a democrat or republican.
