Unbecoming of a pastor.
(CNN) -- In protest of what it calls a religion "of the devil," a nondenominational church in Gainesville, Florida, plans to host an "International Burn a Quran Day" on the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, attacks.
The Dove World Outreach Center says it is hosting the event to remember 9/11 victims and take a stand against Islam. With promotions on its website and Facebook page, it invites Christians to burn the Muslim holy book at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
"We believe that Islam is of the devil, that it's causing billions of people to go to hell, it is a deceptive religion, it is a violent religion and that is proven many, many times," Pastor Terry Jones told CNN's Rick Sanchez earlier this week.

There are times I don't enjoy living in FloriDUH...... I saw this on our local news and the church's sign says something about world outreach.... Really now? ppppfffftttttt

Too bad more local Christians don't denounce this intolerant 'pastor'. There is a counter-protest planned against this church coming out of St Pete. Hopefully those who are embracing true outreach far out number this guys shindig.

All the while our politicians laugh at our ability to be manipulated by bogus crap. blah.

Any arguments or disputes between religions are just ridiculous. It's like arguing what color shoes the tooth fairy wears.

Maybe a group needs to do a bible burning counter protest.

Religion is evil

I think flying 2 planes into buildings was a big enough statement from the extremeists. If islam countries can practise thier freedom to burn british and american flags, behead aid workers and execute workers helping in thier country, why cant we protest in our own way as well?

about time we stopped cowering from these radical idiots and made powerful statements. Im all for it. :thumbup

And Christians dropping a nuclear bomb or two on Japan in 1945 was a statement from the extremists too?

You cannot associate the actions of a few extremists on 9/11 with the entire muslim faith. And in no country in the Middle East is anyone free to behead anyone. Flag burning is fine, it's just a bit of cloth after all.

By burning the Qu'ran you're insulting every muslim, extreme or not.

but burning the flag is insulting an entire nation, if americans burnt an afghan flag, the uproar would be even worse! and dropping a bomb on hiroshima and nagasaki was nothing to do with relgion, it was to do with a World War.

I just think everyone has the right to protest, and that the west is so busy desperate not to offend muslims and show how "tolerant" they are, where has that got us? nowhere, in fact its made things worse, perhaps if these western countries stood up now and then and said NO. they may just back off and take us seriously and stopping killing our children and families. (this is in reference to extremists not muslims in gerneal, although silence is condonment in my book)

I don't get offended if anyone burns the British flag. I just think, what a waste of a flag.

The US and UK don't need to burn Afghan flags, we're already trying to occupy their country, our govt's feelings towards the country are being expressed in blood.

It was to do with the WW, you are correct. 9/11 was part of a war too, perpetuated by a handful of people unrepresentative of the majority. You can't associate the event with the Muslim faith anymore than you can associate the politics of GW Bush with Christianity.

Of course everyone has the right to protest. But protest what? Another fictional religion? Seems quite absurd to me.

Im just saying buring the koran is a peaceful protest, flying planes into buildings is not peaceful, some coutries take huge pride in their flags as a representation of their homes and way of life, and are deeply offended when its burnt. doesnt bother me, I think like you , and feel its a waste of fabric! I also feel the same away about the koran and bible though..

well that's very true, given a choice between the two, the book burning is the better protest. 9/11 was a horrendous attack on innocent lives and I wouldn't wish that upon anyone.

Here's a local article:

http://www.tampabay.com/news/humaninterest/article1120100.ece

The comments are a read...... lol Like this one:

"1st Amendment enables his ability be an ●●●●●●●●. The 2nd Amendment enables others to disagree with precision".

Not that I advocate violence. He's not worth the effort.

I do agree that this man shouldn't be getting any press. Just adds more fuel to this stupid fire.

A pastor with 50 members in his congregation should never have gotten this much press to begin with. Now he is an international media event and whether he burns the books or not, damage has been done.

I think the government (the local, state or federal) should step in and stop him. And before you guys jump on my back screaming that even this idiot has free speech, I want to remind you that your freedom of speech can be limited if that speech will cause harm to others (yelling fire in a crowded theater). The burning of Korans will be seen around the world and WILL incite violent protests where people WILL die. It WILL cause the deaths of innocent civilians and our young men and women in the military. So knowing this, doesn't the government have an obligation to step in and protect our troops? Or do we just sit back and say, "Fuck it, this guys free speech is more important than the lives it will cost." I mean, why can't I yell fire in a crowded theater? Isn't MY free speech more important than the injuries sustained/lives lost in the ensuing panic?

There are limitations to "free speech" I believe this goof has stepped over the line.
