Christians? What are we really?

Where does Jesus say such things as you're asserting in this thread?
  • If you're not living as close as possible to the way Jesus did, you're doing it wrong.
  • Christianity is all about behavior.
  • Sell your things [I know about this one, but it wasn't in this context, was it?]
  • put Jesus before everything
  • You have to behave and act certain ways to be Christ-like.
  • You either are following Christ's footsteps or you are not.

THESE ones?

Great job of not responding to ANY of his questions. Typical.

what questions
Maybe I can help. I've trimmed the excess from my previous post so you can see my request/question.
[...] However, I'm all ready to learn. I have my Bibles within arms reach and the text is readily available online. I'm asking [for] your help.

I just responded to them

are you blind

I'll thumb through my bible tonight to get the exact passages. What version do you want? I have 4.

This is frivolous though. You guys are just trying to make excuses for semi-following Christ. I'm skeptacle if you guys have actually read the bible closely and studied it if you think you can "kind of" be a Christian.

Hahahaha

i am going to tell that joke at my annual "quote a stupid question" meeting :24:
you have annual meetings about stupid questions? get out more..

but in reality, its an answer that can be easily avoided, and yes the bible states that man, 'dinosaurs', and even unicorns all lived together..

and reason being Christians believe this is is because the world is as old as the bible states, not millions and millions as scientists have proven.

but its whatever you can take a blatant statement of the obvious and call it stupid, you still cant answer it

ALL Christians believe (fill in the blank)...?!

Huh. Love to know where in Genesis it mentions dinosaurs and unicorns. You reading the Fred Flintstone Picture Bible?

I don't fall in with the Flat Earth Christians, by the way, and it's only a select, but sadly vocal, few who think things like evolution or the Big Bang contradict the Bible or would care. And the Bible does not state how old the Earth is, whatever ridiculous number some wag calculated from "investigation" is just that, a ridiculous number coming from someone who thinks the Bible MUST be believed in all parts literally, word for word. Never mind it was written by men, we don't have the complete original text, and even a translation of that is what? A translation.

Now I admit I'm probably someone who'd be excommunicated by the Baptists and Unitarians alike, but I know there are Christians like myself who put science and faith in their proper places, because their foci are exclusive.

You didn't answer anything. He asked where Jesus actually said any of the things you mentioned. So far, you have deftly avoided showing one example or citing one verse where Jesus said any of those things. When you change the subject, resort to insults, or decide ti wlk away rather than respond, it comes across that you cannot prove anything you said. If you can, please do. Otherwise, admit that you are only expressing your opinions and beliefs.

I'm just waiting for him to say what version of the bible he wants his answers from. I have 4 different ones, and they vary to a degree.

Plus you really don't need the bible in the first place to show that Americans aren't truly Christians. America is one of the most anti-Christian nations in existence due its materialistic culture. If Americans took their faiths seriously, America would be a totally different place. It isnt. I believe we have the highest murder rate of any first world country, some of the highest drug use, divorce rates, children out of wedlock, suicides and whatnot. They have failed.

Oh, I'm waiting for the answers here, too. Just for the sake of saying you did, use the New Revised Standard Version.

And this argument you've raised is a straw man if I ever saw one. Christianity by the original definition doesn't exist ANYWHERE, it died out some 1,700 to 1,900 years ago, depending on which historian you ask. What's called Christianity today has historically THRIVED on murder, corruption, adultery, and power as an institution. So by your argument America is the perfect nation for Christianity to thrive! I'm reaching here to grasp a point even throwing this argument in the mix, except to distract from the original questions asked.

So, the characteristics of being Christian, with the appropriate references?

I am not a christian. I do believe that my honesty in that regard will get me more chance at a afterlife (should one exist) than the hypocrites who constantly declare faith and in their hearts don't believe. If I were this super god guy, I would not take kindly to those who wore the badge of christianity and were not truly christians. I'll take a guy who is honest in his non-belief to a dozen phony christians any day. Who would you rather drink wine and break bread with?

Most devout Christians who truly believe probably have the same view. Numerous verses in the bible state that lip service is not the same as faith. I don't have them offhand right now.

I am an old man now, but I spent one year in Catholic school, I attended at various times many church of many faiths. I never felt it. I felt like a phony all the time, I tried prayer, never felt it, never felt any contact. I have been through some very hard times, not once did I feel any comfort in trying to make contact with any god. I cannot in good faith, fake belief. I once asked a Priest "how can I get belief in god?" his answer, "You must have faith....."....I can't do that so I must just live my life knowing I at least am not a hypocrite.

I went to Catholic school from 4th grade to 8th grade.
At 23 and with the knowledge I have obtained I can confidently claim to be an Atheist and not feel threatened or ashamed when I'm given the third degree
