Look forward to the day when you don't have to wear it as armor. It will come and you'll notice it.

You have to behave and act certain ways to be Christ-like. Being Christ like is what CHRISTianity is all about.

except you can be Christ like and not be a Christian.

and you can technically be a Christian and not be Christ like at all, but I guess those people miss the point.

As I've said many times, you don't have to subscribe to a religion to be a fundamentalist boob -- all you have to do is hold on to whatever petty worldview it is you have with a death grip, discount any possibility that everything you hold dear might just be a load of shit, and hurl said shit any any passers-by who might believe slightly differently than you. I have met such people in EVERY mode of thought, theist and non.

The original flavor of Christianity was lost some 1,700-1,970 years ago, and though it is possible to find individuals that get it, I've yet to find a denomination that does. From what I've gathered thus far, it was very close to Tibetan Buddhism, that is, not being attached to the things of this world and surrender of the self, being guided by the Holy Spirit. By doing that, you'll conform to the "law", as it were, automatically, not judging, treating others as you'd want to be treated, being charitable, and so on. The early Christians were also hippie commies, that is, they shared everything in common. I doubt many today would do that. What most people practice today is a variation of what the Romans turned it into, which is far more ritualistic. Like all religions, once you start institutionalizing it, "branding" it, actually making it a RELIGION(tm) it loses something.

No, you cannot be Christ-like unless you accept Jesus into your heart in the first place.

Your second statement is confusing. You can't be a Christian if you're "technically not be Christ-like at all". You either are following Christ's footsteps or you are not. Relativism has no place in Christianity.

Curiously, what most Christians are like today are more akin to how the Pharisees and Sadduces (who arranged Christ's execution) act. More curiously, I find that many atheists who have left the more fundamentalist sects to become atheist are more likely to continue to act like they do, just not in Christ's name.

And no, I'm not bashing atheists, any more than I'm bashing Christians. I'm saying that whatever your philosophical bent, it is easy for anyone to lapse into becoming a monkey-in-a-cage poo flinging fundie.

I've actually read the bible a few times, due to my education. Jesus was very clear on what was required.

People now like to practice "vanilla" Christianity. No one is willing to actually live like Christ because it would take them away from their comfy material lives, so they make excuses and half-rationalizations about why they don't.

"Weeelllll you can be sort of kind of almost a Christian, maaaaaaan!"

No, no you can't.

Why doesn't god talk to us like he spoke to so many people in the old testament?
What makes Jesus the real Jesus and not the bum no one will listen to on the street claiming he knows the real truth?
If ghosts, demons, spirits, etc existed why is proving it as difficult as proving there's life on other planets?

I am a PEARList. I believe in what's logical, not superstition.
God made man and animals all at the same time. When's the last time you've seen a modern day bunny fossilized like the dinosaurs'?

Hey, if you want to be well into adult hood and still have an imaginary friend, thats good. I just dont have to be threatened with a consequence to do what I feel is right in modern day society.

Reading isn't understanding. Reading the whole Bible might confuse your memory as to what Jesus actually is said to have said and what ideas came from others.

I admit that I'm a backslid heathen in the eyes of my Southern Baptist eyes. I've read Jesus' words but it's been awhile. I definitely don't remember him being such a strict taskmaster on how to live and behave as you paint him in this thread. However, I'm all ready to learn. I have my Bibles within arms reach and the text is readily available online. I'm asking your help.

Where does Jesus say such things as you're asserting in this thread?
  • If you're not living as close as possible to the way Jesus did, you're doing it wrong.
  • Christianity is all about behavior.
  • Sell your things [I know about this one, but it wasn't in this context, was it?]
  • put Jesus before everything
  • You have to behave and act certain ways to be Christ-like.
  • You either are following Christ's footsteps or you are not.

- Being Christ-like is what it sounds like: Live and act as Christ did as closely as you can. Material things and position in this life should nt get in the way, you have the kingdom of god waiting for you, so if you were actually taking your faith seriously, you'd recognize that.

- There are strict behavioral laws in the bible both OT and NT, AND from Jesus's own mouth that you are to follow and act out.

- Yeah Jesus did actually tell people to get rid of things they don't need, I wasn't taking it out of context.

- Why wouldn't you put the person that made it possible for mankind to go to heaven before everything else? Jesus is more important than anything, including your family. The bible even tells you to do this.

- Well if you didn't have to act a certain way then it would be called being "Christ-like" then would it?

-Yeah I don't see how you can sort of kind of be a Christian.

Great job of not responding to ANY of his questions. Typical.
