I'm Agnostic, but I fear that those of us who lean toward or embrace Atheism are at least as bad, if not worse, when it comes to making personal attacks on people who don't believe the exact same thing as we do.

Seriously, what the hell does it hurt us if someone believes in God? What harm does it possibly do to us if they find comfort in something we can't wrap our minds around?

Maybe I'm nuts, but crap like this drives me crazy, and its why the majority of people have such a negative view of atheism and agnosticism. Let people believe what they want, and be hypocrites as long as its not causing you physical pain.

Depends on whether you believe in a different god to them, then, as history past and present only too clearly shows, you're in the shit! Aethiests and agnostics had it hard in the past but I believe in general we're safe now apart from in the third world and the USA. ;)

Sorry Intruder but I just wanted to point out that the correct spelling of the word you are trying to use is faze not phase. Not trying to be a spelling nazi but as it's such an uncommon word, I am truly just trying to help.

I'm in electronics by profession, so 5 days a week, phase would be correct. haha. Thanks for the save.

That is incredibly reasonable of you Shawn. Rock on dude.

I'll give you, 100 years ago we probably needed to be a little more aggressive, just to keep ourselves safe. Now though, in the developed world you're good to go.

That is incredibly reasonable of you Shawn. Rock on dude.
weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee thank you sir. Seriously though, we can believe what we want without being so militant and the constant need to rub it in everyone else's face, or trying to take some intellectual high ground. If we're right, we're right ya know?

That's the way I feel about people who eat haggis. :yuk
Right? Fuckin haggis. :willy_nilly:

I would love to be able to agree with you, truly I would, but from where I stand religions of the world are not leaving us alone.

They knock at my door & try to give me good news, they kill doctors & blow up clinics that perform abortions, they put pamphlets in my mailbox wanting me to watch historically accurate videos of the bible stories, they want religion & science taught together, as one subject, in schools (I thought that science was where they teach science & that religion is where they teach religion), they blow up buildings, cafes restaurants & shopping malls... etc.

When was the last time that an atheist blew up a building in the name of no one, or knocked on your door trying to tell you not to believe.

Currently this is a one sided deal & the religious have it.

PS I insisted that my daughter attend Sunday school & Religious education. I wanted her to make her own informed decision.

blah. I think its safe to say that in any world religion people agree that taking the life of another is a big no no. Atheists above all should understand that, because ideally we should try the hardest to educate ourselves, since we claim really the bleakest of all outlooks. If we're going to claim that we want the truth and mass enlightenment we should be open to any belief set don't you agree?

That said, holding the vast majority responsible for the crimes of the relatively small minority is erroneous, wouldn't you agree?

Shawn

PS who makes me argue in defense of religion? honestly.

In Australia, they made laws that made it a crime to be a member of a motorcycle gang, these people could be pulled over & searched without the need for an actual offence. When riding together, thay can be arrested.

It appears that you can hold the majority responsible for crimes of the minority.

Can I just point out that my brother likes to get together with a few mates & go for rides, up & down the New South Wales coast, after all it is beautiful. They are not bikies & yet the cops have the law that allows them to be treated as a gang.

One other thing, the bible states that a good christian must spread the word of the lord, so if they really believe then they cannot leave us alone.

Bah again. Its a pretty big stretch to compare religions and biker gangs and I think you know that. Religion is not an inherently dangerous or bad thing. The nature of man and morality makes it so that anything can be corrupted or turned bad. Even science. Example: Nuclear energy can power cities cleanly and efficiently, but the same technology can be used to kill untold millions.

You seem like a smart guy, I'm sure you know that you're arguing in an ethical paradox that there's really no way out of here. I get that Christians can be a little annoying and at times frustrating, but they typically mean well. Are they hypocrites a lot of the time? Yeah. But who the hell isn't at some point.

Are you serious?

People commit crimes against each other regardless of their religious beliefs or lack of. Josef Stalin didn't profess any religious beliefs and killed millions of his own people. Timothy McVeigh, an agnostic who once said that "science is my religion" killed over a hundred people in the Oklahoma City bombing. Should we outlaw science? In addition, people are killed everyday. Sorry, but I highly doubt all their murderers are Christians, Muslims, or Jews etc.

Assuming that the actions of a few people represent the actions of everyone within a religion is naive. An atheist could one day commit a crime and claim that he did it in the name of Christianity. I highly doubt that all the followers of Christianity would support him and seek to vindicate his actions. Most religions teach nonviolence and respect. However, you will always have people, regardless of their beliefs, committing crimes. Those who commit crimes in the name of religion are most likely trying to justify their crimes through any method they can find.

You've got to be kidding! :eek Arresting people for recreation, simply because they do so in a group on motorcycles? That's shameful and inexcusable. :mad
You shouldn't stand for that.
