It's an OK fried food joint. Grew up in Georgia, and have met the Cathy family and my wifes family knows them. I've never been overly impressed with chicken breasts soaked in dill pickle juice and deep fried (Yup - that's the "secret" recipe). The lemonade is waaaaay too sweet for my liking but folks rave about it.

I pretty much agree with AA's opinion:

Their president has every right to his opinion. And people that want to boycott have their rights to do that.

It is a non issue in my opinion

More bullshit diversions from what really is important in our country

And that's all it is is a diversion for self rightious ignorant people to get all fluffed up about on both sides of the issue.

Let capitalism work and it will sort itself out

Capitalism? The form of Crony corporate Capitalism we have today won't work much of anything out other than finding newer and more creative ways of screwing employees out of pay and benefits.

Anyhoo - I found this on Facebook and it rings true to probably 99% of those people who "think" they actually did something meaningful by standing in line for deep fat fried chicken other than making the Cathy family even richer:

They're not soaked in dill pickle juice...there are 2 dill pickle slices on the sandwich. :p The chicken is soaked in a milk wash and then breaded. The buns are buttered and then 2 dill pickle slices put on. I pull the pickles off, but I like the taste of the pickle juice on the bread, LOL

so rather than spout on about sexuality, something even their God cannot change why not focus on educating Cows, frankly the spelling of some of these bovines is offensive

Well, My friend people have changed their sexuality. People who originally identified as heterosexual will later on in life identify as homosexual. Some who identify as homosexual at one point of their life later identify as Heterosexual. People have changed their sexual orientation, maybe not by choice or conciously but it has happened. I dont wish to argue this point in this thread though. I would be more then happy to debate this with you in a thread specifically made for that topic. Also, according to us Christians our God can do anything.

Yes, you might find their mis-spellings offensive, but at the end of the day their ad campaign of misspelling brings in millions for them. I highly doubt they care about the oppinions of people who dont matter, I.E. someone who isnt even a consumer of their food.

You're probably right - we have made our own at home and we marinated ours in dill pickle juice and it was identical in taste without all the added chemicals. Anyhoo - here's what's actually in them:

Chick-fil-A® Chicken Sandwich

Ingredients: 100% natural whole breast filet, seasoning (salt, monosodium glutamate, sugar, spices, paprika), seasoned coater (enriched bleached flour [bleached flour malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamine mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid], sugar, salt, monosodium glutamate, nonfat milk, leavening [baking soda, sodium aluminum phosphate, monocalcium phosphate], spice, soybean oil, color [paprika]), milk wash (water, whole powdered egg and nonfat milk solids), peanut oil (fully refined peanut oil with TBHQ and citric acid added to preserve freshness and dimethylpolysiloxane an anti-foaming agent added), pickles (cucumbers, water, vinegar, salt, contains less than 1% of the following: calcium chloride, alum, sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate [preservatives], natural flavors, polysorbate 80, Yellow #5, blue 1), butter-flavored vegetable oil (partially hydrogenated soybean oil, palm kernel oil, lecithin, artificial flavor, TBHQ and citric acid added as preservatives, and artificial color).

I worked prep in the kitchen at Chick-fil-a many a morning during college. ;)

I've heard a couple things about Chick-Fil-A. 1) Requires no franchises to be open on Sunday. 2) Something about someone being fired for not praying at a group prayer session?

I think the question boils down to if we live in a secular society, is dictating a policy based on your religion, ie, no work on Sunday, is that going over the line of forcing your religious beliefs on others? Where is the line? Hire only Christians? Require prayer compliance? Must attend church? Close on Sunday in observance of the Sabbath? I bet there would be a storm if a Jewish owned business said stores will close on Saturday?

My personal belief is that no policy in a business should dictate anything based on your religion, but that is me. Workers are not working 7 days a week anyway so they are getting their weekends sometime so can you push it as you just want to be sure they have a day off? I'd say if it's Sunday that has to be the day off, that is you pushing your religion views on franchise owners who may not normally want to close on Sunday, a likely busy day.

Despite all this, for just a day off, I don't advocate not eating at a CFA.

You are correct, Chick-fil-a does not open on Sundays. I will say, however, that we did have a staff meeting once on a Sunday. I have NEVER had a group prayer session held at Chick-fil-a while I was an employee there and certainly not a mandatory one.

I wanna say some of the Dwarf House restaurants ARE open on Sundays, though. I could be wrong about that...those are up in Atlanta and I've never been to one.

The Dwarf House in Hapeville is open until 4 AM Sunday to accomodate all the drunken Christians after a Saturday night of debauchery on Stewart Avenue. ;) :p :tooth

The above would qualify you as an expert politician.

One can read between the lines and it is clear you think they should be prevented from conducting business as they see fit based on their religious beliefs.

For gods sake Minor this is a friggin privately owned business. They should be able to close any damn day they want. If that costs them business then that is their loss. If you think Orthodox Jews don't close their shops during certain times in many cases I think you would be very mistaken.

There is a locally Jewish owned men's store which is closed on Saturday and all Jewish holidays. All of the locally owned Asian businesses here are open on Christmas day. Their choice.

Dang, only in Alabama would ONLY Asian businesses be open on Christmas day.

Here in NC, you have a variety of white owned businesses (not sure if they're atheist owned or not) open on Christmas day.

Then again, if businesses didn't have customers who actually went out and bought stuff on Christmas day, perhaps they'd never be open to begin with LOL

Lets see, when does the Christmas crap come out on display in stores now? like August? LOL

For myself, I've never set foot in one of those chicken restaurants, never paid much attention to them, but either the owner or owners son was burned pretty bad burning a burn pile and he wrote a small book on the experience. Got to read that book in a burn unit LOL

Here in the "Biblebelt" if a business is open on Christmas Day it is usually, Muslims, Budahists or atheists. As far as Christmas displays some are already going up now. LOL

How am I not surprised you have an issue with my position. It's one thing to voluntarily close your own store based on your religious belief. It's another to tell franchise owners to close their stores based on your religious belief. Feel free to begrudge me, my opinion.

nope, ATL ones still closed on Sunday. In fact there was huge deal about it during the Olympics. Someone, the Mayor maybe? Wanted them to stay open the whole time for all the visitors and such, and they said no, and closed on Sunday like always.

To be apart of the uniformity, thats what makes you a franchise. If you dont like it, dont pay the franchise and be apart of it.
