Largemouth Bass
I put him back. I was fishing my cousin's pond and he wants all bass under 4 pounds removed all over 4 pounds put back.
Isn't that backwards?

But they grow, don't they? So you take the big ones out and eat them and the leave the little ones to grow into new big ones and then eat them.
This is why I don't fish or hunt.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I just don't understand.
If you take the big ones out, which probably taste better and have more meat on them, then you make more room for each big one you take out than for each small one and then the little ones have a better shot at growing and then you have more meat overall. Right?

Actually bigger bass are not as tasty as smaller. The bigger ones are older and their meat is a little tougher. Ponds are notorious for getting over populated. The fish get stunted when there are too many fish. In his pond I catch a lot of smaller fish and occasionally a big fish. There does not seem to be any in-between.
Now that makes sense.
