Cannot sleep!!!

Which, in a way, will work out nicely, aside from the dog, because Matt is working a more normal shift tomorrow, and I can sleep through most of it, and I'll be extra energized when he gets home and we can actually do something on a week night. (Most places close before he gets off, never mind the half hour drive home to get me and then to go wherever.) Downside to that- he'll be tired.

I spent an hour in bed reading- I didn't mean to. Just got caught up in my book. And then another hour laying there with my eyes shut listening to Matt breathe, the dog snore, and the church bells on the alarm clock. It was very soothing and relaxing, my eyes even glued shut. But no sleep. So I've been on the computer for 2.5 hours now and it's a boring boring world at 4 AM.

How do y'all fall asleep when it just seems impossible?

That's what I do with the alarm clock, but Matt likes the bells over music. It's really quite soothing, and I never hear the end, except tonight, 'cause I lost track of time reading.

I'm tempted to make hot cocoa, but the dog woke up and saw my empty side of the bed and decided she needed to come be with me. I don't want to wake her up. Let daddy fuss with taking her out tomorrow. (Which, btw, pisses me off. He gets up, has breakfast, watches tv, plays computer, etc, before I get up some days. Riley doesn't budge. But oh my gosh, if I get up half asleep to pee, she has to come stand guard. As soon as I open my eyes, it's like she knows and she starts moving around and asking to go out. Why can't she do that to him, too?)

Honestly once I get into that state where I cant seem to sleep... I hunker down for a night of being awake. I've tried lots of things, and none of them seem to work during the worst of it.

Drugs (meaning the otc legal sleep meds) actually make me feel worse.
Music or thunderstorms help during light to moderate times, but during some of the bad ones like last night for myself, I'll just keep waking up or never fall asleep.

I read in bed until I feel more tired. At the moment there's no big incentive to sleep at certain times though. My boyfriend works for about 4-5 in the morning anyway, and then comes home early afternoon and has a nap, so I just sleep whenever.

If all else fails I just settle myself and watch tv... I will eventually doze off.

I am sorry you couldn't sleep Kim.. hopefully you get some rest today while Matt is at work.

Hopefully. He actually woke me up this morning so I would be tired tonight. I appreciate the thought, but I feel like crap after getting half as much sleep as usual.

Hmmm. One will have to be saved for the underground (:ninja) but another way I use to fall asleep quickly is to meditate.

I tried one UG technique and it didn't work. :( I completely forgot about meditation. I do the "sink into the mattress" thing, and never stay awake long enough to get to my body. I wish I'd remembered. Oh well, for tonight if I need to.

I used to take Excedrin PM and it worked great, but I took it a couple times while I was the only person in my apartment and had absolutely horrifying nightmares- one where I woke up screaming into the phone "They've got me, help me, oh my God, they've got me!". Haven't taken it since.
