How can you say that you do not contribute? Maybe not to this specific reserve in canada. Every single thing you own, every single tool you use, every single source of energy you consume had to come from the environment and its resources. So tell me how you can be so sure that,for example, in the processing of your keyboard that you type this shit on a squirrel wasn't killed?

I hate destroying of the environment also, but you seem to only equate it to those who produce the oil, not those who consume it. Humans are not the only species who change the course of nature. What about a beaver colony who builds a massive damn and destroys the eco system down stream? Or destroys what used to be a marsh land, but now its a pond or a lake. Do you hold them accountable for killing thousands of spotted frogs? Or do you say its okay because they need a place to live, just like humans?

Well for starters I knew it would piss you off.
And the truth of it all I don't need any of these oil base products to survive. If one day they up and vanished. that would be a good day for me. It would make me very happy.
I simply use these products because they are an easily achivable luxury.
As for the Beaver..
The beaver does what it does out of instinct and has no idea of what it is doing to the enviroment down stream

My point here was, even though you think it's irrelevant, that as lemon said is a temporary destruction. You're hating on Canada for something the US has done for many years previous to Canada finally tapping into their resources to make some money. I don't see what the big deal is, Canada sucks for doing what the rest of the world has already done. :dunno

anyways i wouldn't worry about too much, Canadians do things like that the most humane way possible. i'm sure the animals will be taken care of and the land will suffer as minimal damage as possible

Oregon and Great Britain are about the same in land mass.

It's not like canada is suffering finacially.

The big deal is: It's wrong. It's greed. It's unecissary. We have the knowledge to produce cheaper more efficient fuels.

that's not what I read. They knew about this deposit 30 years ago. they did were doing tests to find a more enviormentally safe way to remove the oil. guess the got impatient. the land that they did strip 30 years ago still hasn't recovered. So know they are going ahead with mass strippage.. I sure hope they know what they are doing.

The thing that bothers me is.. Oil is flamible, they are about to uncover a very very large section of oily ground. I hope that this stuff isn't combustible..That would be one hell of a mess.

This is oil sand, average bitumen contains 83.2% carbon, 10.4% hydrogen, 0.94% oxygen, 0.36% nitrogen and 4.8% sulphur.

That is one ingredient away from one mighty fine explosive.

I sure hope you cannooks know what you are doin..

Because we don't like to practice censorship. I read the thread, and the only thing I saw was two people disagreeing about a topic. One person selfishly locked the thread and the other acted like a moron and whored up other threads.

This is a forum section with alot of debate going on, either you can handle it or you can't. A thread simply isn't going to get censored or locked simply because two people disagree. Doing so goes against the ideals of OTz.

As for this thread being stupid, I found it rather enjoyable up to the second page.
