Actually, in poll after poll, most of America considers themselves more conservative then liberal. That's why the vote was 61% in favor of protection of marriage in California, which is a very liberal state. Where are you getting your facts from?

Check your sources again... the latest polls show 51 percent of registered voters favor the idea of allowing gay and lesbian couples to wed, while 42 percent disapprove.

What was wrong with the source?

Well, it apparently doesn't exist in the eyes of Wikipedia...or it was deleted. *shrugs*

Or did you think I meant that I deleted your source from your post??? No no no...I meant that the link you put up goes to a page that says there is no page.

Do you believe a state should be permitted to regulate a father and daughter or a sister and brother getting married? If not, why not?

Yes, it should be regulated since it no longer falls under marriage but under incest laws. There are very good (biological) reasons to legislate against incest. This is not a moral issue IMO.

How about two women and a man getting married?

I'm not sure about this one. I for one do not believe in polygamy or subscribe to it's merits. But I really don't have enough information on it to know it's pros and cons. I would actually need to look further into the topic to give any type of informed opinion. But personally I do not believe in it.

How about public display of affection (that is making out in public)?

I have no problems with public displays of affection. As long as it doesn't cross the lines of existing legal boundaries. ie. getting a blow job, clothes off, etc.

If you were shown that it has no more ill-effects than monogamous marriages, would you support legalization?

Sure, why not? Just because I wouldn't do it personally doesn't mean that I would want it outlawed. This would be the same with gay marriage. It's not something that I would need, but there is no real reason to have it outlawed.

I guess my point is this... who am I to stand in your way if you are gay and want to marry your partner? Show me where this will ruin anyones life, show me where it will destroy the fabric of society... It's nothing more than people standing on the moral high ground looking down at the rest of the world with jaded views.

I'm not sure how many studies have been done on this yet but I'm sure there will be as society gets more reasonable. This isn't something I'd personally need studies before supporting legalization but I could understand the desire for them. To me it just makes sense that multiple parents working together would be no more harmful as a whole than homosexual parents or single parents or heterosexual parents. As long as children aren't being harmed, consenting adults should be free to form whatever relationships they choose.

I totally agree with the rest of your post. The idea that it's ruining peoples lives and their marriages is so thoroughly ridiculous it's funny. The people who hold those views are far more of a threat to society than those who see that marriage is marriage regardless of the sexual orientation or number of people.

lol, So there was what, 3 bad opinions on the one thing I said? I wonder if I have bad rep now too. Must check.

It's okay if you believed what I said, none of you have any reason to understand when I'm being sarcastic or not, since none of you know me, unfortunately (hopefully soon?).

But it was satire. And what's wonderful about that is you can't throw the "it wasn't funny" at me because satire doesn't have to be funny. I was merely showing the ignorance of some people.

I'm glad a few of you took offense. Means you don't like what i said! It means you don't believe in that! That's wonderful.

But I love all people. I'm a really sensitive guy who believes in anarchy, so hence being homophobic goes against what I believe in. Same goes with sexism or racism, etc. Seeing me say something like that makes me laugh because it's the complete opposite of how I feel.

C'mere and give me a hug.

Sometimes things are so bad you just gotta laugh.

Edit: And thanks Grace for stickin' up for the little satirical boy.

Glad you clarified. Like I said, I don't know you well enough to have known if you were kidding or not...so I wasn't sure what to think. Plus the fact that "fag" or "faggot" is one of those words that I really DO NOT like so it always has a negative connotation IMO when it's used. *shrugs*

If Grace says you're good people then I believe it...so I'll happily give you a hug and say that I'm sorry if I pre-judged you.

Word it's fine. I know I'm not known enough around here to really get away with saying what I did but you know, it's so damn tempting anyways.

The Supreme Courts judge constitutional or not. They do not pass laws, nor enforce them, only reject them.

The Supreme Courts overturn laws because they were poorly written. It is impossible to legislate from the bench.

The Supreme Courts make decisions based on precedent, scholarly writing, and decisions rendered on similar issues in other places. They make the best informed ones they can. Except for Clarence Thomas, he does as he is told.

The higher courts have there hands in an awful lot that involves everyday life.

Take an hour or two, read some decisions that come from the benches of these folks. If you don't think there is a terribly flawed court system in this country.....

Well you must be a Republican:ninja

I am a Democrat, actually. And yes, I am not thrilled with some of the decisions made, but that is because of the selection and approval process. Judges are not chosen for their open mindedness anymore, just in the way they toe the party line.

Frm President Reagan said once that his biggest mistake in office was appointing Sandra Day O'Connor to the Supreme Court, because she didn't vote the way he hoped. She took her job seriously.

The current Supreme Court was chosen to be close minded and reactionary, so that the Christian Conservatives get to impose their will on the country. We as voters have to do a better job of selecting our representatives, so that we send a better class of people to elected offices.

Here's something I drew for another forum (gillibean will recognize it):

chartet9.jpg

It was really in response to the view that some creationists hold that gay people should be treated as people but should acknowledge that what they're doing is sinning (wtf?)

I'm pretty sure the Bible frowns on pre marital sex too but you'd find it harder to find a Christian, who thinks gays are wrong, who looks down on that just as equally.
