I cant see your brain, but im sure it exists. As does God Almighty
There is a diference. We have evidence and observable pehnomena that we have a brain.

As for God? Not so much.

I never met George Washington either, but because hella people wrote about him i accept he was real. As with God, and the bible
Apples and oranges.

We know that George Washington existed because we have thousands and thousands of reliable, first and second hand sources and artifacts/documents.

Hell, there actually is zero reliable evidence of a historical Jesus, actually.

The bible is basically a mish mash of letters written thousands of years ago by anonymous authors which were given names far later by Roman councils.

I can believe the biblical Jesus was based on an actual person or persons. But I certainly don't believe he walked on water, multiplied loaves and fishes or raised people from the dead based on the gospels. As Carl Sagan said, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. The gospels aren't even ordinary evidence. They're anonymous religious propaganda.

Die and you will meet God.

There is no physical evidence your claim is true. There is physical evidence my claim is true. My claim is undeniable, while yours is speculation. That was my whole point and you've illustrated it yet again.

There isn't even sound logical evidence that death means meeting god, let alone physical.

Crack open a skull and you'll see the brain. Until there's a god pinata I'm going to suspend judgment.

Speaking as a person who believes and trusts in God, I've heard a lot of sarcastic remarks in my time but never have I ever heard such a horrible and vile statement such as this one. All I can say is may God forgive you because apparently you have no idea what you're saying. Wow!

It was one of my wittiest retorts, I must say :D

No need to go cracking skulls people! We have x-rays! :D

The devil's hands! Lies! Lies!
I thought it best not to muddy up the metaphor with something that could be construed as scientific intervention.

To clarify, my vision of a god pinata is this, and when you get it open, god stumbles out, unharmed :24:

Better yet, set fire to it, and just when you think there's no way God could possibly escape... He appears in the audience sipping on a long island ice tea.

And for his next trick.... :D

I see a lot of people have misunderstood the point of this thread...no one can prove whether or not a god or God exists. It is by faith and faith alone. There are many arguments that can be viewed for or against God. It's completely up to the person who is searching to decide how to believe and what is substantial and sufficient for them to form such a belief.

If I may ask... what is your faith built upon?
How did you come to have a personal relationship with God and is it based on the teachings in the bible? Was the bible important in your understanding of God?

In fairness there are like 3 religion threads running at once, so there's a lot of just yacking with disregard for the actual thread purpose.

Religion/faith is just Calvinball because it uses little logic; whatever feels right, whatever rules one wants to place on a belief system. I think we pretty much all have agreed that proof and god are enemies.

The disagreement comes when the arguments are laid out, as you said. The classical philosophical arguments for god try to sneak proof in them, though, that shouldn't be overlooked.

I have no specific faith, no expectations. I just experience wonder and hope that this life has meaning that persists into the future.

I talked with my neurosurgeon (who I believe is a remarkably intelligent man, who also happens to have 4 PhD's as well, one in Philosophy from Boston College) on the subject of God. He mentioned to me that when he is operating on the brain and he see's the wonders of the human body, he can't help but feel there is a God in this universe.

Cool story bro :D
But in seriousness, are you trying to assert there is a god because this person believes so?

Not at all.

I'm just a dumb &*^% who has happened to be blessed in his life, and at times can't figure out why. I do however like to talk to people who are much smarter than myself to see what they believe in and why.

I guess it's just nice to know that there are smart people who believe in a God:D

A very long time ago I learned that the two things you don't talk about at the firehouse (local bar in a coal miner town) is religion and politics. All you have to do is look to online forums to see how wise people were a long time ago before the internet came to be LOL

There are one or two smart religious people, ya :p
I kid. Ya, they're horrible topics to talk about in anything put pure anonymity and in the safety of those who agree. They lead to a lot of trouble.
