How did y'all like the Hunger Games? I thought it was decent.

I really liked it, and originally thought it was a super original idea for a book... until my friend told me about Battle Royale...

"In the future, the Japanese government captures a class of ninth-grade students and forces them to kill each other under the revolutionary "Battle Royale" act."

Apparently it's quite blatantly a copy-cat. For example, the "cornucopia" idea is taken almost exactly from that movie.

I still like the book a lot, it just sort of diminished my opinion of its creativity.

I've seen and read Battle Royale. It's good.

I've not read The Hunger Games, don't have much interest to do so. I read the wikipedia synopsis and there do seem to be a lot of similarities.

Oh wow, that's interesting. I didn't really think it was completely original to begin with, I thought the whole thing was similar to the gladiator games. I liked it nonetheless. I don't see myself reading the other two books though.

Well, in terms of originality, I meant the whole "forcing young kids to battle to the death as a means of government control" aspect. Obviously the general "battle to the death" aspect itself is quite un-original. :)

oh I didn't realise The Hunger Games was excatly like Battle Royale. That's one of my favourite books of all time.

I'll probably get around to reading The Hunger Games at some point though.

Just finished Hunger Games and starting on Catching Fire today. Hunger Games was decent for me, but not really amazing or stellar. I probably won't read the series again.

Ann Rule - Small Sacrifices - Based on the true story of Diane Downs here in my home state of Oregon ... it's really interesting and a good read.
