I just read what you said earlier Kelvin, it would appear senate has smashed the bailout due to failures of the unions to re-negotiate wages.

At least that's what's being said

Japanese companies are in trouble also. just not as bad as their costs are lower and they are subsidized by their country.

i think the old adage that our cars are worse than theirs is not true anymore.

i have owned american cars all my life and in the last 20 years they have been very good except two.

both that had major engine problems were Oldsmobiles oddly enough.

their current situation has more to do with the bank meltdown than anything else. they would have been able to make it thru 2009 with no trouble when the union concessions kick in.

As a matter of fact it was just stated a few minutes ago that senate was expected to work through the weekend hammering out some kind of middle of the road solution.

Personally.....I think they need to file bankruptcy, and that would entitle them to re-negotiate with the unions, and re-structure.

I think if the government gives them anything, they will piss it away

Just wait -- the costs will be 10X more if they file bankruptcy. Toyota and Honda will be fucked too. You are as knowledgable about manufacturing as Shelby!

Just heard Gettelfingers news conference.

That guy talks in cirlces and claims they had stepped up to the plate with concessions. But then he said something to the effect where it appears there were time tables required which they would not accept. He wants to have his cake and eat it too.

Also he said the Union represents 10% of the labor costs.

There is gonna be a presser at noon today with Shelby. Gettlefinger had copies of an email from a rep staffer alledgedly that is talking points about how the reps need to support Shelby and to fight the union because one of the first things the dems will do is to pass legislation which will give the unions good odds of unionizing the factories in the south.

yuppers. politics as usual

the reps were idiots. now Paulson is gonna provide the loan and these concessions won't necessarily be part of it.

I'm not sure you complimented me or insulted me;)

However......Maybe what this country needs....Is a good swift kick in the nuts, the years and years of corporate corruption and excesses, the years of socialized employee structures, and inefficiency have wrought this.

Why the fuck should I pay for it in taxes, I own a GM (against my will...My wife wanted one) so the way I see it, I supported them, they didn't support us.

Fuck them.....Every last one of them. Maybe car manufacturing will blossom with private auto makers who are innovative and concerned with customer service.

Or maybe it'll blossom with companies who don't have to pay off extorting unionists.

The unions will ochestra the fall of the auto industry if they won't accept job and wage cuts. Bailout wont solve the problem instead it will just defer the problem. The auto industry should follow what Citi bank has done. Citi cut 53,000 jobs and they deserved the bailout whereas the auto industry did nothing to streamline or restructure and they expect government to play Santa Claus.
