I knew you lived and worked here. But I didn't know about the different criteria that foreigners have to meet to join. I didn't realize that the different criteria was not really that big of a deal. Personally I think that should be changed.

You think the Marines/military should only accept American citizens?

That's kinda strange...

I would think that their screening process is quite thorough.
 
If they didn't accept foreigners, a lot of latinos wouldn't be able to get in, and that would reduce the size of the military (Marines) dramatically..

No I do not think the Marines/military should only accept American citizens. I didn't state that. :confused

Q: How can foreigners (non-United States citizens) join the Marine Corps?
A: Here is the criteria for an alien to join the U.S. Marine Corps:
They must have entered the U.S. on either a permanent residence visa or an Alien Registration Receipt Card (INS Form 1-551/I-551 green card or stamped I-94).
They must have established a bona fide residence in the United states.
They must have established a home of record in the United States. ​
Once in the United States and once all of the criteria is met, interested men and women can go see a United States Marine Corps recruiter who can help them enlist in the Marines or they can call 1-800-MARINES.​

Requiring that a foreigner is here legally and has a home is not much difference in criteria.

Why should it be different? Why should I jump through more hoops to die for your country??
 
When I enlisted in the Navy, I was going to join under their Advanced Technical Field program, in which you enlist for six years, but they guarantee a "C" school, or advanced training school. The recruiter told me about the program, said everything is open, so I would get what I wanted etc.
While I was in processing at the MEPS center, a chief there told me not to, that under the program I could be sent to any school, and I would have no say in what that school is. He told me, go to Corps School (I was a Hospital Corpsman) and apply for a "C" school there, and I would get a choice of what I wanted.

He saved me two years of enlistment. When I reported my recruiter, nothing happened.
 
I heard on the news about a month ago that a group is authorized every Wednesday to protest outside the recruiting office. A passerby saw the demonstration and started yelling and screaming at one of the protestors. Apparently she felt very threatened because he was a large biker type guy, so she started yelling for the Marines to come save her. And they did. :nod:
