At what point would you have stepped in?

So I was driving home from work today. And I hear a horn honking to the left of me. I look over and there is a woman and man fighting (physically) in their van as they are about to turn onto the street. Not hitting just a lot of pushing and shoving. So the guy gets out of the vehicle, yells something about her slamming a door on him. He then slams the door and walks away. Mind you this couple was in their early twenties. So she then turns the van around, chases him down, gets out of her van , starts running at him and then attacks him. :eek So then he attacks her back. I am not sure if her hit her though I am pretty sure she hit him. Then they wrestled on the ground. They were there for about thirty seconds. Mean while I am waiting for the light to go green. He then pushes her away, tells her to get back in the van and she does. She then proceeds to chase him down yet again in the van. Then my light turned green and I had to leave. :wtf_anim:

So that got me to thinking. At what point would you have stepped in? Would you have stepped in at all?

Sounds like it would have been a dangerous situation for you to intervene, but a call to police with a description of the van and plates may have been a good idea. I would have done that.

I wouldn't have stepped in, but I probably would have phone the police if it looked like a serious fight (the wrestling on the floor would have been enough for me).
Unfortunately/ fortunately, whichever way you look at it, I live out in the sticks and have never witnessed ANY form of violence between grown adults (that I can think of) so I really wouldn't know how to deal with a situation like that.
I have witnessed a teenage scuffle before but it never amounted to anything, just a punch each and then they were sent on their way, separately.

I was just about ready to intervene. :ninja Dude wasn't much bigger than me. Well taller than me but that's not saying much. :ninja He was quite scrawny though. :p well maybe I wouldn't of intervened. I like life.

Exactly what Anita said. Never intervene. Scrawny or not, you never know if someone will pull out a weapon.

Well said, AB!

People are crazy. You never know what they could have on them. Best thing you can do is call the police. I wonder what they were fighting over. Sounds like the getting in and out of the car and driving and stopping wasn't just putting them in danger but other people too.

I probably would have gotten out and separated them, and called the Police. I've been in a lot worse situations than a small domestic dispute. :dunno

I agree w/ what most everybody else has said. It would have to be something severe for me to intervene personally instead of just calling the police and monitoring the situation while they were enroute. For instance, several years ago now we had an officer on a traffic stop that was wrestling w/ the guy on the side of the road. The suspect just about had his gun and, fortunately, a citizen came to the assistance of the officer and helped him get the guy under control. Had it not been for the citizen's intervention, we very well could have buried our officer that week.

I will say that if a child was in trouble I would intervene in a heartbeat. I would gladly give my life up to save the life of a child.

You intervene when someone is helpless this fight needed to be handled by authorities not a third party

I disagree. If there are two people fighting I'd try to stop it whether or not it was one sided, rather than wait and risk more injuries, or worse.

I understand this and I agree that I would have difficulty not interfering...but there are many graves filled w/ well-meaning citizens who attempted to help a person in need. First thing you learn as a public safety responder is that your safety comes first...then the public.

I could never think like that, not the way I was raised. Honestly, I'd put myself in one of those graves without a second thought.

But if you die trying to save her (we'll use the female in this scenario as an example) and she still gets killed, what good have you done??? I know that some people have the mentality that they can handle anything and blah blah blah, but that way of thinking has gotten many an officer/firefighter/paramedic killed.
