Age of Consent

I see nothing wrong with 16 year old making their own decisions.

If they are not educated on pregnancy and STD's by that age, thenthe parents have not done their job.

What about 14 year olds? Where do you draw the line?

The article says the mother is raising two of her daughters five kids. Clearly this daughter was a young, drug addicted, and uninformed statistic. How much responsibility do you give to the mother for how her daughter turned out?

i dont know about you guys but if a couple wants to have sex their gonna have sex
laws or not and etc...with gays they would even be more likely to not get caught cause of
hiding the fact that they are gay....most of them do anyway
when i was growing up i never worried about all that
if me and my girl wanted to then we did laws and crap were the last thing on my mind

as for the 27 year old drug dealer and 14 year old
HANG HIM in the town square. Drawn and quartered.

Well here the age of consent is 16 which sounds about right to me. I'm not sure if gay sex is 18 or 16, I think it should be the same though. It's a hard and sensitive subject to get right, in all honesty, what's the difference between someone having sex with someone on their 16th birthday or the day before that? I think the law needs to show some discresion.

You draw the line at the common age of maturity, which is 16. This is the age where the majority of teenagers are able to make a conscious decision whether or not to have sex, while being fully aware of the risks involved. Some 14 year olds are mature enough to make this decision, but not the majority of them.

And parents are not responsible for how their children "turn out". They are responsible for delivering their child to adulthood well educated.

What kind of maturation are you talking about? Sexual? Psychological? According to the Google Machine, sexual maturation is often before age 16. Psychological maturation seems like more of a social construction that varies between cultures. Certainly, in our American social system, maturation to adulthood and adult decision-making begins at 18.

And parents are not responsible for how their children "turn out". They are responsible for delivering their child to adulthood well educated.

So it's entirely possible that this mother gave her daughter all the best in education and guidance, and she still turned out a wreck? Personally, when I read the story, I thought it reflected harshly on how the daughter was raised. I thought to myself "what kind of a parent would put up with that?" You don't feel the same?

I know adulthood starts at 18. This is the same in many countries. I believe this is the age you must be to interact in decision making that can affect others. Like joining society interactively.

The choice to have sex is not a decision one will share with society. The only involvement of society in this circumstance is to agree upon an age where one will be fully aware of the risks (e.g. STD's & Pregnancy).

Yes other countries differ on which age one is fully conscious of the risks. Children are raised differently all over the world.

Another factor to weigh up is that you must take into consideration that one must be protected from elders who would exploit their young age for self gratification.

Possible? yes.
Is that what happened here? I have no idea.

I've know parents that have giving their children the world, only to have their children end up a junkie or in prison.

very politically correct terminology
the human body has periods of growth
particular things happening at particular times
and when they go through each of them they
have lots of trauma associated with the occorence.
example the body starts to grow hair length longer but not to its fullest
for wormth, sweating to get rid of antioxidants, and scent for attracting females
and to provide a way to make a mark that is able to be smelled over time to show
ownership of female and to show territory
The combination of these chemicals that are released into the body and the physicality of
the growth period is going to make the human have illregular activity and association maybe even
change the thought process.

people forget about this stuff or they think it doesnt exist or you can control it
but they are wrong
