Um, I never said anyone was attacking my views. Do you really thing I'm threatened by you people?:confused
I like it when people say "You people." Has a certain ring to it. A "me-against-the-world" quality. I've never heard you say that before. Cool.

well seeing as grace used a very religious concept in her post, I thought I would respond.
gracie didn't bring up religion - you did. ;)

I'm not going to debate this whole religion thing any further.
HOLY CRAP!! I mean UN-HOLY CRAP.

Do you hear that?!?! It's my bullshit detector going off as soon as you made this post! :p

Or were you talking about in this thread only? THAT has a little more credibility to it, but not much.

This thread only. I don't want this one turning into a full blown religious debate.

:cool arguing about religion is like one of your cornerstones, a bastion, a bedrock of AEFness, a pillar of what it is to be the AEF. :smiley24:

But religion plays heavily into the subject at hand. You can't expect to discuss moral issues (and abstinence is a moral issue) without religion coming up.

OK. the Earth is back on it's God-given axis now.

I was ready for the Apocaplyse if you stopped debating religion. Sheesh. End of world averted. :ninja
Thought I heard a trumpet blow and some creepy dudes on horseback go past the window...

Thats going with the assumption that morals actually exclusively come from religion, though.

Religion does influence morality, I was just making the point that the root/source of all morality never originated in religion.
So you admit religion influences morality. But you don't want religion to come up in a morality related debate.

I don't mind it coming up in the figurative sense, I just don't want it to turn into page after page of meaningless crap where we just sit here and go back and forth getting nowhere.

Then you shouldn't bring it up. Fuck, you said religion teaches us contempt for the body. Do you not think that's incendiary? And when people fire a shot over YOUR bow, you say, "Hey, I don't want this to be about religion" when YOU were the one that brought it up. Goodness gracious - pick a line and stick with it. Oh, I forget, that's not a hallmark of coffeehouse philosophy. :cool

Naw, that was just me passing gas. MAN, it was a good one, too - long and deep!

That's actually a pretty good darn post. Morality does not come exclusively from religion. :clap Morality is a personal choice driven by many internal and external factors, of which religion is only one. A major one, but not the exclusive one.

But, but...that's what you do. Take a good debate and turn it into page after page of garbage. What are we going to do now?

Dudes.. As we all know, when your a teenager, you can get horny thinking of french fries (thank you drew carey), it's how you educate teens about having sex and the responsibility of sharing that with someone.... It's unforunate that our complete younger existance is told over and over again that having sex is bad and is forbidden til' marriage. That's how it was for me, it wasn't until I EDUCATED myself that I knew about what I wanted. You can't stop it, its human to want to reproduce.

Plain and simple it all comes down to teenage ignorance. You can preach them whatever form of birth control you want, whether its condoms, abstinence, etc. 99.9999% of teens are still ignorant of the actual consequences until they experience it first hand.

You can tell your child to not have a temper on the road, to not speed, to not street race. But there comes that time when they say "fuck it", their ego pumps up and they go and get in a wreck/speeding-racing-reckless driving ticket.

You can teach kids the way you want until you're blue in the face, but in the long haul its going to happen regardless.

So I ask, it's really a surprise that teaching abstinence and handing out free condoms hasn't made even a remote impact on the number of teen pregnancies?
