When I lived away from home, I had nothing to exercise with, running was my only hope, so I did that every day. I ran to the servo up the road and back, increasing my distance a week or two later. It helped me get rid of those couple of kilos I put on from being there (no more rolley stomach yay!).

I wear shorts whatever the weather if it's cold I'll put on a long sleeve shirt instead of a short sleeve one and if it's really cold I'll put on a hat

Last time I checked, I could run a mile in like 15 minutes.

To me, the cardio machines at the gym are crap compared to running outside, so I don't use them. Hence, in the summer time is the only time I can run.

:eek That's some going! The world record for 5000 metres (3.1miles) in only less than 2 and a half minutes quicker! Do you race professionally?

No, I just have long legs! :24:

I can maintain a fast running speed for 3 miles. I'm no good at longer distances though. Even though I'm a very heavy smoker, my doctor was blown away by my health after a check up earlier this year, he couldn't believe that I smoke. I guess I'm lucky, that and I exercise hard every day and have done for the past 10 years. I don't know how anyone could live and not exercise. For me it's an integral part of my life, I feel like crap if I don't do at least 20 mins of some kind of exercise every day.

When I run, I keep it to 5km max, and just run as fast as I can.

Not bad for a heavy smoker, eh?

I'm not a big fan of running, I find it really uncomfortable.

It's a pity though, becuase I'd love to take up running to try and get fit.

what do you find uncomfortable about it?

It's worth investing in really good trainers for running. And never jog, never ever jog. It's better to run, then walk if need be. Interval training is great for improving your distance.

Okay so I've been down with a knee injury for the past 3 months and not been able to run.
So I thought what better way to get back into it than to set a challenge for me and others, make my runs worth somehting more than a place as an officer in the RAF XD.

Okay so my last run a slow 1.5 mile run was in 15minutes 18seconds

So if you can beat that (Woudln't be suprised if you did it's terrible) I will then try and beat your time.

I could run 1.5 miles, but a bit slower :24:

I think all medical pros would say to take it easy at first so you don't exert yourself and cause more damage to the knee

Just curious, why do you advocate against jogging?

Boobs. Even when wearing a sports bra, I find it uncomfortable.

I can run short distances before it becomes a problem then I tend to walk (I don't mind walking, I do like it). I used to get hell in PE at school becuase the male teachers thought it was just me being lazy.

I didn't know jogging wasn't that good. Why is that?

Well I need speed as well as endurance so I do both I need to run 1.5 k miles in 10minutes
I nearly had it there to bfore my injuy :(

I used to run and was aiming for a marathon till i had an ankle injury. Unfortunately, i can run long distance anymore. :( I did manage to run 5 miles for 1H 15 mins giving me a pace time of approximately about 15 mins. If you say in that the initial challenge of 1.5 miles in 15 mins- your pace time is 10 mins and say that's slow for you....W0W you must be a sprinter over a marathon runner eh? Kudos on that esp a post knee injury. :clap

Your 2nd goal of 1.5 miles in 10 that wld give u a pace time of 6.4 mins- whoah that's faaaassssstttttt! I am impressed. You can qualify for the Boston Marathon who requires a pace time of 8 and below

Just curious, why do you advocate against jogging?

With jogging, most of your motion is up and down, rather than pushing forward. This is very bad for your joints, especially if you're jogging on concrete. Well, certainly for me anyhow. I'm very tall and skinny, and I find jogging quite uncomfortable on my knees and lower back.

When you run, you're moving less up and down, using your legs to push yourself forward as much as you can. It's softer on the joints, and better for your cardiovascular system.

I also read that by my age (mid thirties) it's more beneficial to work out for less time but higher impact. Not sure the mechanics behind that, but that's the advice I got.

Damn those boobs. I can imagine them being a real pain for running.

I wouldn't know what to suggest about that I'm afraid. A tighter sports bra?

Jogging, bad for your joints as explained above.

Oh no my knee has healed it's just I now have to get into things I'm 15 minutes is slow when you average 10 to 11 minutes in good health and weather XD

Hell when I first did my knee in apparently it was a month before the pain stated which actually made it worse, i just suddenly got a lanceing pain all down my leg from top to bottom, I could walk . . . very slowly but not at my normal 125 pace per minute (Yes I counted my walking pace) more like 50 paces per minute not good :(

I'm hoping to do more swimming next year once the leasure centre is open fully again, mix it up a little rather than just running.

I should join a gym too but I really don't want to rather jsut do my sit ups, press ups, dorsal rises and other manly workout things at home in private, so I can privatly fail for a few months:p
